It’s Advantages...
Walky’s biggest advantage is that it is a wireless phone. It is more of a mobile phone than a landline. It runs on a battery which can be charged like any other moble. It can be taken anywhere within the flat ( actually, anywhere within the city, but the plan of TATA is for home use only. ) There are several other advantages of this all-different phone. It enables a modem-free internet access. There is a serial cord which is to be attached to the PC and the other end to the phone. This enables Internet at speeds upto 115.6 kbps. However, I have never seen the speed rise more than 60-70 kbps. There are a couple of games provided with the phone ( LG LSP-350T model) .SMS is also enabled in this phone. The ringtones are provided with the phone. If you needed new and latest ringtones, it can be acquired through an SMS.
It’s disadvantages...
The biggest disadvantage of this phone is that it loses the charge pretty quickly. The charge lasts for not more than 6 hours. The internet facility is pretty costly ( 40 paise per minute). The download speed online is also very low ( Sometimes, it touches 1 kb/sec!). The highest speed I have experienced on this phones is upto 7 kbps/sec. There is one more nagging fact, about the TATA company. The service for TATA Walky is cut off if you exceed the provided limit.
The bill comes on a monthly basis. The calls are normally priced.
The TATA Walky is a good decision for a short time need for a land-line i.e, If you plan a stay in a city for 5-6 months, it is a very good choice. But, for the city/home use, it is not economical. With BSNL propping up with Broadband at 250 and Re.1 for STD/Local calls, TATA Walky is sure on the verge of extinction and can survive only if certain rates of theirs are slashed. Reliance Hello is the only contender for Walky. However, with the TATA Walky already performing badly in sales, it has a dim future.
