After being sold the TCS dream when my current role was being assimilated into them the proceeding months since starting with them have been nothing short of the worst employment experience of my life.
I was dumped into TCS with no induction, training or information on even the most basic of processes or procedures and then told on an almost daily basis that I was not working to the TCS standard. I asked my team leader for some guidelines as to what standard I should be working to as the site I was working at for the previous 3 years were very happy with my performance. This was ignored as were all other requests for information from the team leader. When he finally responded to my queries it was to take these things up with HR who take forever to get back to you or look it up on possibly the worst, most poorly designed and confusing company intranets I have seen.
To get any information or answers to questions everything needs to be escalated to the HR, the team leaders just don’t seem to care about anything other than ticket closures.
The grading system is one-sided and confusing with no real recourse if you feel it is incorrect or unfair. Everything seems to be India central with majority of training and development being made available to Indian employee’s and again, I asked my Team Leader about this and get the standard reply of check the intranet or contact HR.
The technical teams seem to only have very specific qualifications and no real experience outside of the classroom. There is also the culture of if it’s not in my job description I am not going to assist. There is no initiative, imagination or lateral thinking, they seem to need to be told what to do and when to do it otherwise it will not get done.
I am sure it would be different if you are in India, but if you are a different nationality or in a different country I would steer well clear of TCS if you have any other options.
