I am going for this TATA Indicom Broadband even after going through all the reviews in this section of MS. I am aware that I am taking a step which I should not. But what else can one do when he have no other options:
My requirement : At least 256 kbps connection(i.e Broadband) for downloading multimedia content and also to surf web faster.
My availability : TATA Indicom broadband , GPRS through mobile.
Now GPRS is ok , but to it takes huge time to surf ( 40 kbps at max). Since I live in a rented house so no BSNL , and even if I take BSNL broadband then there is a pain in a** termination procedure plus non existent Customer service (BSNL Employee : "What is it???").
So finally I decided to put my hard earned money on risk by paying 1124/- non refundable installation charges plus monthly rent of 1124/- . I am preparing myself for the worst.
My preparation include:
1) Took the business card of the person from TATA Communication who came took the pain to come to my office and collect the papers (I know this is only because I am going to be a new customer).
2) I am also going to have a nice chat to the engineer (Being a Engineer myself from premier Institute of India I find this term is being more generically used now a days.) who will come to me for installing , I will give him nice snacks and tea and treat him as a guest (So that he remembers me in near future )and finally take his contact number and also the contact number of his boss.
3) In case of any fault, I will call up the engineer first and if that person doesnt turn up then I am going to call up his boss , even then if the issue doen not get resolved then I will directly walk up to the office Since the TATA Communications main office is 5 min from my home and logde a complaint even if that does not occur then I will terminate the connection.
I am definitely sure the connection trouble will start from the first month itself so, I kept my options open and I went for the option in which I had to pay installation charges instead of paying 4 four months rent at a time( In which installation charges are waived off).
Friends , wish my broadband connection some luck so that it remains trouble free and smooth (too much to ask for from TATA communication) .
P.S - According the the guy who took my documents he will "try" to provide the connection on Saturday Evening , lets see which saturday it actually happens.
I will try to update this post once I get the connection.
Update as on 12-SEP-2008 :
1) The guy who took the paper promised me the connection on 6th SEP ..... but failed to keep.
2) Then again he promised me to provide connection on 8 th SEP ...but failed again.
3) Then again he promised to get me connected within Wednesday 10 th SEP .... but failed again.
4) Meanwhile TATA Indicom officials completed their verification process.
5) On Tuesday 9 th I got a call from one lady from TATA Indicom that they are facing a crisis of wires due to which they are unable to provide the connection and I will have to wait for at least 15 days more.
6) I called up the guy who took my document on 11 th and asked , according to him the shortage of the wires have been solved but there is now shortage of new ADSL routers, so TATAs are deciding whether to provide old router to new costomers or to wait and provide new routers, so it is taking so long to provide connection. He again promised me to provide connection by next week.
Lets hope this time he keeps his promise. I am still keeping myself calm, since I have no other option :((
