After trying really hard to maintain my Hutch GSM connection and having come to the conclusion that it was much more affordable to maintain a CDMA connection, I decided to go for the TATA Indicom STD plan of RS:0.025 per call to one TATA Number and Re:1.00 to all other STD numbers. Just Dial, the very easy to use and friendly local directory Just Dial provided the required landmark and the phone numbers for the nearest TATA indicom True Value Shoppe and off I went to purchase a connection with all the required documents in photocopies.
The office or the shop rather, was full of people and customers were being given tokens and had to wait for their turn to approach the counter and do business or have their queries answered.
My turn came and upon explaining my needs to the lady at the sales counter, who again was very polite, I was suggested to go for the 299 plan and buy a handset of my choice. I wanted to purchase something in the range of Rs:2000-3500 but the lady recommended that I buy the most basic phone costing just Rs:800.00 including taxes. I was also told that it has been the most trouble free model they have and it also has a decent battery backup.
I purchased the phone and came home after being informed that I would get a verification call the next day and would need to bring the phone once again after the verification proccess has been completed in order to have it programmed.
I waited for the verification call all the next day but no one called either my cell phone or my house. I went to the True Value Shoppe and informed them about the situation and my phone was activated in the next 25 mins......!!! I was happily suprised.
Here are the pros and cons I faced during the proccess of getting my connection.
Pros:
Speedy procccessing of the purchase of the phone and explanation of the rate plan.
Affordable handsets and a reasonable range as well.
Acceptable signal strength so far in the areas I ve used the phone
Extremely affordable rate plans.
Instant activation upon my visit to the Shoppe once again.
Cons:
Feels like entering a govt. bank or office when you are given a token and are asked to wait for your turn
Half the desks are empty with no employees to attend to customers, and imagine, this is their corporate office.
No verification call inspite of the same being mandatory.
Come back to me with your comments. I m really looking forward to it.
