Frankly speaking, I wanted to write a negative review on tata indicom wimax after my first experience
in bangalore.
But then, I was forced to take it again when I shifted to a new place, where there was no other service provider.
Once again I took the 3371 postpaid plan(256kbps unlimited).
Pay 4 four months in advance and avoid installation costs(1000rs).
what made this a pleasant experience was that this time I specifically asked for a static ip.
this makes sure that whatever the traffic be, u always have a dedicated ip which implies you are always able to login to the server, wherever u are in bangalore.
I took the connection on jan 2nd. the executives came on time as mentioned.
It took them pretty long time to find the tower and get everything done. 2.5 hrs. tht was way too much.
Usually it would take a max of 45 min by the time they meet u and leave ur home after all the works.
But what made me relieved was that the executive was insisting for better signal strength each time.
Once he finalised the antenna position, he called his back-end officer. it took him around 20 min to get connected.
Even he was complaining about tata indicom service!
The back end executive checked for upload and download speeds and approved the antenna position.
Then they came to my room and gave me the tcp/ip settings. I was using linux, so I had to do it myself.
I noted down all the settings, ip, dns servers, because I hate calling their customer service, it takes a lot of time for them to solve ur problem and it costs u a lot too.(local landline charges). I’d say u would lose a minimum of 16rs per call.
If you are an expert user, I insist you let them know, otherwise they would make you do all those things like deleting cookies, router reset, remove and re-plugin ur ethernet cable.
I took the connection mainly for downloading movies.
I have configured my system to power up automatically as soon as electricity comes,
open firefox, login to tata indicom website,
open my torrent manager and start download.
In this way i’m able to use my connection to the max, even though I have to go to office daily.
I do a ping from my office on my ip to check if my system is online and it always is except when there is no power.
So for all those who have to take tata indicom wimax connection or those who already have it, switch to static ip. it is a free service. i’m sure this can help u get a pleasant experience with tata indicom.
