After reading many reviews I wanted to write to help fellow readers choose the Right DTH.
The Good
Firstly the box quality is really good. Its been 2 years since I installed it and the box and the hard drive in it are still working. it has not been switched off ever so you can trust its ruggedness. it has been moved around in the house from 1 TV to another ( I had sequential cables installed because I wanted to view it at different places if someone in sleeping in that room or lobby which has a bigger TV (55 ") No issues faced just open the cables from back and connect the cable with a cable connector to the cable going to other room and it works well).
Remote control is out of the world as there is no lag from the time you press the button on the remote and the action is completed so its is really responsive. Features like series recording is so much fun as you can record the entire series and it will not record the repeated telecast. so you can watch tv at a time convenient to you rather than be there when the program is aired the biggest feature.. and this is one of the main reasons I will buy this box again even if its the most expensive box in India. the best part is that if one program is being recorded you can watch another channel and you can record 2 programs simultaneously but then it will not allow you to watch the third channel so you will have to watch one of the 2 programs which are being recorded.
However the best thing is that you can still watch the content which you have recorded earlier. So as of now I am never in a situation where I feel that nothing exiting is coming on TV as I have some recorded content that I have never watched. Specially on weekends when there is nothing much to do so I catch up on the content that is recorded during the week. The not so good things.
This is 1080i box and not a 1080p so the true satisfaction of HD is not there. Also over a period of time I have seen the quality of HD transmission getting reduced as they have increased the number of HD channels. I see pixalisation on English channel transmissions (Nat Geo HD , Discovery HD etc. quality is poor compared to Hindi HD channels)
Secondly the HD Access fee of 100 Rs per month just to access even 1 HD channel is like stealing money from the customers. No other service provider is asking for such kind of money.
Limited content and the most expensive only 9 HD channels in all. So if you are a Hindi serial person and only watch 4 channels Star plus, Colors, Zee tv and Sony in HD then this is the product for you. Star gold HD will be an added advantage for you . if you are looking for a variety of HD channels then this box is not for you. also if you only get time to watch tv on the weekends and dont want to miss the serials, movies that were aired during the week then go for it.
