Tagged with the new price of 3999+ (with installation free and 1 month subscription free ) I guess tata sky HD+ is the best deal available in the market.
I previously owned Tata Sky plus box which I bought for 8999/- and paid Rs.1000/- for installation. The box was bought 2 years back when no other company was offering record, rewind etc. features.. I have a very buzy life and have very less time to watch tv. So I always wanted something that would allow me to see what I want and at the time what I want.
So say if movie like 3 Idiots is being telecasted at 8 pm on sunday and I don’t have time to see that day, I always dreamed of getting some recorder that would record the movie for me and I could see it on next sunday or whenever I have time and these PVRs does exactly what I wanted.
Secondly, what I hate most on TV channels when good movie or program like comedy circus or CID (my favourites) are being displayed is the breaks which come for long 8-10 mins after every 10 mins of program or a good movie. The PVR solved my exact problem and I could now watch tv by fast forwarding the breaks.
So all and all I was very happy and satisfied with myt TV from last 2 years. And now came out this HD+ DVR and that too at a price tag of 3999/- including installation and 1 month pack.. At first I felt very bad becuase I purchased similar thing (actually lower in configuration) for 10K 2 years back... but that is the feeling you are bound to live with just any product, be it be mobiles or laptops or any other product wherein technology advances and your current asset becomes valueless :P
Anyways now my experience about HD+ Tata sky HD+ is a good quality product (not that good as much it was with tata sky plus) but still acceptable.. Actually the things it is providing has the cost of that much like it has 500 GB HDD which costs 2000/- alone, HDMI cable (which costs 400-500) when purchased from market. Then you have recorder ofcourse, cabling, fitting, installation, Dish so in any sense if you total them up, you will end up even higher than 4K so thats a big reason to smile.
Actually this box is right now not much usefull for those who already have tata sky plus as it has all the features almost same. Picture quality is a bit better.... Menu and softwares are a mixed bag of better like now you can record series of programs much easily by clicking record button twice and can see your contents more organised in Plan menu. The only major benefit is 500 GB hard disk against the 160 GB hdd that they gave in tata sky plus. Since they don’t have much channels on HD so HD is actually a joke unless ofcourse you have a home theature like I do and you love to watch cricket with that stadium like sound on your 5.1 channel..........
Very excited to see the first live HD match on 20th March (India Vs West Indies) I wish I would have bought this box before India-England match atleast :( So all - n - all it is a win win situation for those who don’t already have a recorder type STB but a minor upgrade for those who already have tata sky plus atleast till the time all the channels are broadcasted in HD...
