I had been waiting to write this review since long but held back to give in more time to understand TATA Sky better. A brief background of how I landed on TATA Sky.
I was looking for a flat TV as a second TV for my bedroom and decided to go for a Panasonic 42 inch TV (Will write a separate review on it) and was deciding to go for a HD Box. I had numerous options and was bent on using the reliance HD Box. However, my busy schedule stopped me from going over to a store or do more research on whether reliance was a good option. Due to this I ordered a TATA Sky HD box (without recording one) online. I was of the opinion that if they take a week to install it should be fine for me cos the TV installation was not done till then.
To my very surprise I got a call the very next day that my connection was assigned to a person and that the installation would be done the same day. We requested the technician to come the next day as we were in our busy schedules. The technician came along the next day and performed the installation very quickly. The quality of work was good and all wires were handled very well and all drilling jobs were completed neatly. I asked for my full quota of cable and this was provided. The HD box was installed and I was given a free one month HD pack. The picture and sound quality is supreme and I really enjoyed the broadcast.
An important aspect is customer service where I think one should focus majorly as in India this is non existent. However, I have found TATA Sky to be satisfactory. Calls to their service center are answered within the normal time, I also have an online chat feature which allows to interact with the agents and theyre really helpful. Only issue is during peak hours the chat feature may not be available/if youre in queue youll end up waiting for long. The key should be to call early or late at night (before closing time).
Now coming to the cost of subscription. Must say the cost is pretty high around 450 INR per month for the HD pack where we are getting very few HD channels. I have checked with competitors and found that others have overall more channels like videocon provides 300+ Channels for lesser price. Now I will not comment if I will see all the 300 + channels but I am pretty satisfied with my subscription of close to 160 channels.
I will recommend this to others if the high cost and low channel list is not an issue. I have found the hardware of TATA to be of best quality in comparison to DISH TV (which I have in my home at Hyderabad)
