Whether to choose DishTV and TataSky depends completely on what channels are available to you. What is applicable for a person like me who want only Tamil Channels, English Movies and Cricket may not be applicable to you.
If you have a cable at home and you don’t mind spending couple hundred buck extra per month, then the choice is clear. Have both Cable and DishTV.That is what I have at my home.
This way I don’t miss out any channels. (Some Tamil channels come only in cable) There are about 20 Tamil Channels.
Dish TV comes with 8 Tamil channels.
Raj TV - 2
Sun TV - 2
SS Music - 1
Jaya TV - 1
Pothigai - 1
Vijay - 1
Notable missings are Sun Music, K TV, Jaya Plus, Tamilan TV
Reason for going digital broadcast (Dish TV/Tata Sky) is pretty clear cut.
Once you start watching cricket matches in Dish you won’t like to go back to cable. :-)
Having said that:
Customer service setup is pretty bad.
Renewing service, ordering pay per view all look complicated.
Changing channels should be made simpler. Without creating "Favorites" list, it is painful to navigate the channels.
One of another nice benefit of Dish TV is :
even if the whole city is out of power you can watch cricket matches
at home without any interruption using DishTV + Online UPS combination.
