Tathastu has an excellent premise but is destroyed by the plot. The film is sappy, unrealistic stuff with hardly a true moment anywhere in it. It preaches and practically begs you to agree with it.
Sanjay Dutt works on the assembly line of a scooter manufacturing unit. His Family consists of wife Ameesha Patel and son Yash Pathak. All is well till it is discovered that the eight year old boy has a weak heart and will die if a transplant is not done soon.
Sanjay sets out to collect the Rs 15 lakhs needed for the operation. He taps hisfriendss who have borrowed money from him, his insurance company and his employers. He falls short. Till this point the sympathy is all with him. Then he loses it. He takes patients and staff hostage and forces the doctors to operate. Only, the available heart also has another claimant, a political swami......
Tathastu is silly and inconsistent movie. Its has wonderful actors who cant rise over the really ridiculous script. It tries to be too many things: drama, action and manages to fail on nearly every one of those levels.
The films silliness comes in many flavors. So cold hearted are the hospital staff, that they cant even communicate with the patients. They use over-complicated technical jargon which only inflames Sanjay. Dont they train these people how to talk to families? They come off so villainous that they almost appear unimaginable.
Worst of all were the ridiculously over the top rich and beautiful transplant recipients. Its so blatantly stupid and with in your face symbolism, that I wanted to leave the cinema hall.
Finally, theres quite a number of weird qualli. And a really poor score that sounds like more of a Bhajan.
Sanjay is just about okay .Amisha is pathetic!Rest of the cast is wasted.
Tathastu isnt poorly made, just poorly written. Theres no saving this movie.
