Simply fascinating...Tawang!!

Tawang is one of the bordering regions of the North east with China. Located approximately around 500 kilometres from Guwahati, it is an extraordinary journey in itself to getting there. Through the plains of Tezpur to the Snowcapped mountains of Sela pass you will definitely enjoy the scenery going through to Tawang. It is well connected by road and there is also Helicopter service between Guwahati and Tawang operating on a daily basis.

One word of advice would be to do daylight travelling only due to the roads being narrow and well to enjoy the ecology.

The main attraction there is the Tawang Monastery, the largest in India.

If the monastery is amazing then the view behind will make you breathless. Located on a hill this majestic monastery is absolutely gorgeous. With a library consisting of hundreds of volumes of books and housing hundreds of monks this place is huge.

The statue of Lord Buddha in the mediating position is really amazing and also this place was visited by His Holiness Dalai Lama himself.

The view behind is something that can be seen and words really aren’t enough. From the green hills to the snow capped mountains towards the end of the horizon, the view is something you won’t find elsewhere.

The monastery itself was supposedly built around the 17th century and still is in the same pristine condition as it was during our forefathers. The place has a really calming vibe and is really untouched by all the scientific advancements. The people still believe in the age old traditions passed down from one generation to another.

The best time to visit the monastery is during the festivals as they are celebrated with great pomp and joy. Accessibility is a little bit of concern but apart from that you have good hotels for accommodation which aren’t too deep for your pockets.

On the whole it’s definitely worth all the hours of travel and do make sure you stop in Bomdila and Sela pass for some snaps visit the  border and also snowball fights are the things to do in Sela pass so don’t miss out on it.
