Meter Down!

The title, definitely is quite innovative. So, is the concept! Nothing radically different, just a simple narration with lotsa clichés intact, and yet an entertainer. If you step in the theatre expecting some power packed performance, then you could be disappointed. This is just an entertainer! To the final scene!

The movie does not really have a story, just a collage of events which brings two very very different people together and binds them. Destiny, as they say, is a funny thing!

So, to use a few sentence from the Film’s Official Site and Preview:

“Raghav Shastri (Nana Patekar), an Insurance Salesman to the world, but a caustic, instinctively witty cabbie in reality, who needs thirty thousand rupees by the end of today...

And Jai Mittal (John Abraham), the equally acidic and heir to a resourceful business family but need a bit more. Three hundred crores actually. Also by the end of the day.”

Sanjay Dutt’s narration in his famous “mumbaiya” style keeps us interested.

Both Nana and John, together do, have a lot of screen chemistry. Bluffmaster has done a good thing for Nana and the movie here explores his acting skills further, as an average frustrated Mumbai cabbie. Very under stated “mango man”, unlike his other performances where the characters have been very strong and needed the typical Nana fire to be played! But, Raghav Shastri is as different from any of his previous roles as possible, any other relatively little known character actors could have done the job with equal ease; however, Nana’s Raghav has a spice.

Jai is just another rich bloke. “Bade baap ka bigda beta!” But, not really a bad guy!

Sonali Kulkarni looks quite pretty in her role as Raghav’s wife. Well, Sameera does not really have much to do.

There are no villains and no major twists in the story; which is quite refreshing.

The music by Alok Shekhar (Bluffmaster!) is decent. The title track and the final tracks are quite foot tapping and Bappi Da ( by the way, this is the first time he has sung for any other music directors other than himself) and Adnan Sami give a real life to both these numbers, respectively!

All in all, this is watchable! Two hours of entertainment! And, the few flaws like the loose weave of the story can be overlooked
