I received a call from Mr. Anand (owner of Teknik motors) today. He enquired about the problems I have listed in this review. Mr Anand also was keen to resolve any problem with the bike.
The company folks reponding to online reviews so quickly was a pleasant surprise and hence I decided to try out Teknik motors one more time.
I want to change the gear shaft spring and see if the throttle response can be increased as the next 2 things for the bike. Will try Teknik motors once again and update this review with the results this time.
This is not a review in the strict sense. I primarily intend to share my experience with Teknik motors, Bangalore.
For those not aware, Teknik motors is a Royal Enfield dealer and have an associated service station for bullets on CMH Road, Indiranagar.
Walk into their showroom, there are 2 ladies usually sitting there who have no clue about bullets. They never bother to greet the customers and has absolutely no interest in selling anything on earth. Forget about selling anything, the number of words you can make them speak makes you wonder what they are doing in this job.
They do not offer test rides either. They shamelessly ask you to go to the service station for test rides. The finance scheme was from some obscure bank ( I dont remember the name) and the interest rate was very high.
Coming to my part of the story.....In some of the websites, I read that the owner of the service station, Mr. Anand is a trustwrthy person and had helped some people buy good used bikes. I had by then decided to buy a used bullet and met this fellow. He pompty arranged for a used thunderbird and I liked the bike, paid the money and asked them to get it serviced.
He also assured that he will ensure that all the required work (oil change, clutch and throttle adjustments, necessary minor repairs ) will be carried out by him before he hands the vehicle over to me.When I went next to pick up the vehicle, my troubled time started. I had to beg and borrow time from the mechanics to get the work finished. After spending 4 hours, still there were small issues ( brake lamp not working, seat was fitted properly, etc ) for which they asked me to come later.
FInally they handed the vehicle over to me around 8:30 pm. I was tired by then and could not check everything before taking it over. I also had a lot of faith on Anand who repeatedly assured that everything is fine.
Next day, to my surprise, they did not change the clutch and engine oil and it was as thick and dark as tar. I took the bike to a local bullet mechanic to get the engine oil changed. He later showed me that Teknik motors have **replaced** the following for my bike:
1. changed thunderbird clutch plates with worn out standard bullet ones
2. clutch and throttle cables were replaced with defective ones and not adjusted properly
3. clutch chamber cover was replaced with a broken one ( if you know bullets, this one costs good amount ). Again oil leakage from there.
4. They had broken one of the oil chamber nuts by hitting it with hammer or something and oil was leaking of it.
Got all the work done on my own. I am using it for almost a month now. Fortunately the rest of the bike was in good shape. Except for regular chain and throttle, clutch adjustments, I did not have to do anything.
The mechanics in Teknik motors are bigtime cheats. There was this guy named Ayub who worked on my bike. He was more interested to get rid of me than to get the bike in shape. When asked why the oil change was not done, he said the job card did not have it listed. He gave me a long story about why the brake lamp was not working and in the end all that was needed was to replace the tail lamp bulb.
**Moral of the story (for me) about teknik motors:**
1)Dont get fooled by some websites singing praises about Anand. Even though he shows good intentions, his mechanics in the workshop are absolute "kamchors" and will go to any extent to avoid work. The indifference these people show to the bike (and you) simply gets on my nerves !!
2)Found Teknik motors also very expensive ( both spares and labor ). So better get hold of a good neighbourhood bullet mechanic and buy genuine bullet parts from JC road yourself(if in Blore)
3)Avoid, unless you are not able to find a good neighbourhood mechanic.
