First of all sorry for the format. I am unable to create paragraphs with this new MS format. Can any one help me? The life of cinema depends upon the directors. If we start counting them we cant count just ten, becuase you have got large number of types..like parallel cinema and mainstream cinema...some are cross over ..thereafter you find another level with period. No way one can compare the new genre with older one...they are way apart. Here I try my way to judge the best of present day hindi cinema:
(1) Sanjay Leela Bhansali: Like a dark hosre, this guy too started lagging behind with movie named as Khamoshi...which I liked personally very much but was rejected by audience. You can find his fire in 1942 A love story songs and I rate him best romantic director of Hindi cinema. His all movies bear some common aspects like fire, painful romance, and finally achievement. The emotion takes the top seat with sublimity and conviction. Watch Khamoshi, Black and HDDCS. Best Work: Black. Worst is Devdas
(2) Mani Ratnam : One must say that this man is a gift to indian film industry. He has given just one hit movie to Indian cinema and one highly accliamed and otot he made just three movies but have shown other lobbies of hindi cinema directors ....Friends How Movies are made..and what a real movie is! Mani Ratnam is Indian Speilberg whose movies are hi on tehniques and a good mix of socio-political and emotional drama. Among the lot of illiterate directors from extreme north like johars and Chopra, this man is just opposite and sharp in all corners of movie making...You emagine how great is this person who does not know hindi and stil ends up with stunnign movies. Watch him for yuva( youth Politics), Roja(Terrorism) and Dil Se(Civil terrorism+romance).
(3) Ram Gopal Verma A man who has ruled his own theories and made the world to accept. His deadly conviction fills lives in whatever he does. he literally runs factory and has turned movie making into really a quality product as well as institution of young artistes, directors and technicians. He the man who ha gifted Manoj Bajpayee, Rajpal Yadav, E Shrinivasan, Madhu Bhandarkar and a army of best technicians and background scorers. ram Gopal Verma is an institution and a lab or movie making. Pattern: this telgu man is heavily stylish and one can watch him for his verstality and love for detailining in his movies where functioning is the hero not a character. his excellence can be found with movies like Kaun, Road, Satya, Sarkar, Shool, Shiva, company and Raat. Well known for modernising the Indian cinema and starting the Fashion of songless movies. Indeed the King!
(4) Vidhu Vinod Chopra: A subtle romantic! I had watched many romantic movies but I got one feeling strongest after watching most of them...romance has suffering. Ek uje ke Liye, QSQT and Love story are such greta movies...but the chram of this Chopra is he makes you lost in romance though his movie does not pretend to be a romantic movie..and you taste a sweet sublime romance. I felt in love with manisha koirala after watching her through the broken window of bus with Anil Kapoor in 1942 a love story and it was very infectious. bobby deol made just one movie good in his life...Kareeb, and cute simpleton love story told with comedy, you fear Nana but love madhuri Anil in parinda, you start loving a Tapori with Munna Bhai...a man who sees the world with clean lenses! His fort are narration, simplicity of Hrishida, verstality and acute sense of perfect romance. Parineeta was his last one and bets one for Saifs carrier. wait for Eklavya.
(5) Prakash Jha. Scent of Soil! Hindi cinema must be thankful for his presence. He is he most compelling director whose every movie leaves you spellbound and stunned with his power packed delivery of heartland of India. He is a gifted film maker with mutliple national awards and still successful with mainstream cinema. Ace in narration and scripting with superb direction. he is complete powerhouse masculine director to be remembered for Damul, Mrityudand, Gangajal and Apahran. Watch out his next...Rajniti.
(6) Madhur Bhandarkar: Like his Guru He is Ram Gopal product and one can see his workign style in Madhur.Love for details and researched movies where functioning and situation is hero instead of any character. most of his movies are great work like Chandni Bar, P3 and Satta. watch out for Coorporate. (7) Govind Nihlani: Reality Mirror Prakash Jha and Nihlani share great similarity. Both reflect our contemprory society and both make well researched extensive movies, though Nihalani becomes a bit parallelistic. he is versatile in his treatment and deals with politico reasonings with current issues: watch his best as Drohkaal, Ardhasatya and Dev. He is an absolute eye opener and shocking director. (8) Tigmanshu Dhuliya: Know him if you dont. I dont know how many of you do know him but he is a bright star for all who know movie making. his first product was Haasil a real life story over student politics and love stroy. This man is dark horse and belongs to the class of Vidhu Chopra. his second movie was Charas which went unntoiced but both of them deserved awards. His treatment of story as well as narration is exactly of Vidhu. watch him. (9)Raj Kumar Santoshi: A fat studd! Yeah...he another stylish filmmaker with little brithness than RGV. his obsessaaion with missions is clearn in his movies and he goes with the concept of God v/s Bad. very good grip over cinematography and camera frames, he is undisputed king of fast paced movies with very natural as well as dramatic tretment. Ace of thrillers. Best are Khakee, Ghayal, Damini and China Gate. (10) Rakesh Roshan: the Indian Sci-fi saga! He was not so memorable with his earlier movies, but he has got some right clutches now with his son. consistently he has delivered three thrilling movies who are record blockbusters. KNPH, KMG and now Krrish. unlike his counterpart this man has respect for science and just due to him this lacking domain of Indian cinema has been achievable. Grand treatment of script is his plus point with lots of good music. By today he is the best fantasy seller and pioneer of sci-fi endevour of hindi cinema. This is my opinion of best of hindi cinema. These are the real heros who never depended upon the media hype and marketting, hardselling. Many would be disappointed to see yash Chopra misisng here. I dont consider him a good director and in fact a big frame lifter and great marketing man. If allowed to expand this list It can accomodate Mahesh Bhatt and Vishal Bharadwaj(still has to prove himself with Onkara, though maqbool was excellent work).
