1) TITANIC
I never wanted to see this movie, but after seeing it, I became a fan of the movie. Leonardo Di Caprio as well as Kate Winslet has given some beautiful performances in the movie. The movie made me a fan of her. The winner of 11 Oscar awards tell the tragic love story of a poor boy falling in love with a rich girl. The merging of the sinking of Titanic along with a love story was one of the ideas of the era ie the ones who like love stories as well as those who like reality stories or adventurous ones also may like this movie as it is a collection of different genres. It shows that true and selfless love lives even after death. The songs of the movie like ’My heart will go on and on’ are excellent. The music itself touches your heart more than anything else.
2) LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
This movie which was released in italian is another tragic story. This is a story setup in the past where the Jews are sent to concentration camps and tortured by Adolf Hitler, one of the cruel masterminds of all times as I studied long ago in my History text. Guido (Roberto Benigni) is a Jew who gets married to a young lady after a lot of incidents, most of them funny and later they have a son too. But in the second disc, the story takes another turn as he is send to the concentration camp. But he saves his son by asking him to hide telling him that it is a game and the winner gets a big tank. He tries not to make his son aware of the real fact even when he came to realise that his end is near. Quite an amazing story. The appreciation, the movie got at the Oscars proves it.
3) AMERICAN BEAUTY
American beauty is quite a different drama, while some may find it like an adult movie. The movie leads us into the life of a neighbourhood in a great way. The potraits a decaying American family. Here is a man who is having some problems in life is shown. He is attracted to his daughter’s friend. Thereis also a neighbour who uses a video camera to capture the beautiful things he can see. I don’t know the actors and actresses, but the cast is just great and the movie is a bit slow, but still a must to watch. The movie treats today’s problems very well. It really deserved the Oscars it got as it unfolds the truth very well and has a good theme in it too. I watched the movie in Star Movies and was not able to view it completely as I had to go to play Badminton, but I am very impressed with the movie until there. Kevin Spacey is just amazing in the movie.
4) THE MATRIX
I watched this movie first with my friend who is no more. When I think about this movie, I remember him. Well, coming back to the movie, this I believe is the best part of the Matrix series. Keanu Reeves has given a breath taking performance in the best grahics movie of the year as Neo. As the movie was based on an extremely different theme which is says that the usual world is just an illusion created by machines and the real world is a nightmare where the intense war is going on between the humans and machines creating chaos all over. The action sequences of the war is just amazing as each move thrills you all over. The dialogues of the character Morpheus are syunning. I believe that there is no chance for any substitute for this movie as it is simply on of the best ever released.
5) INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
A classic movie based on a book on the same name which portraits the life of a good, rich human being loved by all, played by Bradd Pit after losing his wife desiring for death. It was a vampire who answered his desire. He promised him eternal life if he joined him. But Bradd was not ready to drink blood from humans, but his desire for blood was too high. After a young kid was made a vampire by his master, Bradd became completely against him. He and the kid tries to kill the one who spawned them and they indulge in a search for vampires which they soon find. There are some emotions and the helplessness of this man who is a vampire with the mind of a human being which makes him the most desperate living thing on the surface of the earth giving us a sad feeling.
6) PREDATOR
This is the first movie I saw in a DVD and it rocked me more than anything else. The movie is the story of an alien hunter who makes trophies from the humans after hunting and killing them brutally. A group of soldiers lead by Arnold Schwarzenneger along with a prisoner are hunted one by one by this creature alias an alien from outer space. I really liked the quote ’’If it bleeds, you can kill it’’. Their struggle for survival in a place where death is over their heads is shown in the movie. I didn’t find the final part of the movie very interesting, but all other parts of the movie including their millitary mission. Arnold has given a solid performance in the movie. Elpidia Carillo too looked good in the movie as the prisoner. The second part too is worth mentioning.
7) TERMINATOR
I still can’t figure out which is the best among the three Terminator movies, well all are about a huge battle taking place in the future between the humans and machines. The machines have send a Terminator to destroy the leader of the human force, in the first part of the movie - before being born, in the second - as a kid, and in the third - as a young man. The ’Arnold’ factor I think is the most important factor in the success of the movie as he has given a superb performance in the movie - he has really given his 100%. I have heard that the Terminator sequence has ended with the third part - The Rise Of machines, but there surely is scope for more terminators from future as well as John Connors is alive! A terminator is all it takes to make a movie.
8) GLADIATOR
Russel Crowe has done something impossible here with a movie, an action movie which hurt the human hearts. A cruel successor of a king is the villain. Russel Crowe plays a faithful general who has his wife and kid killed by the cruel monarch. He fights hard to get a chance to have a revenge against the cruel sucessor who is te current ruler. He shows his ability in the arena and survives the king ruler and kills him in the end, but he too goes on to see his wife and kid. There are some good dialogues and action scenes as well as some great work from the crew and a beautiful screen play. I believe that this is one of the epics of the century and surely is a historic action movie.
9) RESIDENT EVIL
This is a movie I saw with my friends and they all liked it. In the movie, Milla Jovovich plays the major role. The movie is about a virus being unleashed in a laboratory which works on illegal scientific researches underground. A group of commandoes comes to investigate situation and to shut down the laboratory, but get killed one by one. The movie has some interesting action scenes as well as some horror factor. The zombies look great, much better than in the game from Capcom under the same title. This is another movie after Tomb Raider which is based on computer games. The second part of this movie is released now and I can’t wait to see it.
10) JURRASSIC PARK
A Steven Spielberg film which brought a new concept ie the diosaurs which were extinct long ago being brought back in the Jurrassic Park. The first part was the best of all as it showed the real character of dinosaur ie hunting for food. In the other movies, the dinosaurs seemed to be interested in creating chaos other than thinking about food. I can’t stand the Lost World. But the first episode kept me in the seat from the begining to the end. The dinosaurs looked real and their characteristics were well planned and really informative. The special effects used in the film seemed to be great and the presence of horror factor makes the movie even better.
