Yesterday I had written a review on Top 10 English movies, it was a difficult task as I had watched so many good English movies that I had to leave out a lot of good ones. Writing a review on top Hindi movies is almost as difficult as that, but in the opposite way. Choosing 10 best movies is not easy, as I rarely watch a good Hindi flick. Anyways I?ll give it a shot.
Sholay: This is a legend. If someone who never saw any Hindi movie asks me to recommend one for him, I would recommend this one without thinking for a second. Not only this movie had the biggest stars of Hindi movies, this is one great mix of great action, music, comedy and suspense. There are movies, which are better in one direction, but if you mix them all, this movie is unparallel. Amjad Khan gives a stunning performance as the legendary Gabbar Singh. Oh yeah, I have watched this movie more than 30 times until now, will keep watching :-)
Satya: Very intense gangster drama with excellent performance from Manoj Bajpai. Manoj Bajpai although has become a little stereotyped, is an actor who can drag a whole film by himself. Although other actors were very ordinary in this movie, I?ll watch this movie again and again to see Manoj?s performance.
Lagaan: When it comes to true Indian entertainment I don?t think any other movie even comes close to Lagaan. Watch this movie for good performances from all the actors, good songs and above all CRICKET. A very good entertainer, according to me a must-watch for all Indians.
Golmaal: When it comes to action, suspense, mystery, and great story I would rather watch English movies. But when it comes to comedies, I think Hindi movie has its special flavor. This is another movie that I have watched many times, Utpal Dutt ? Amol Palekar combination at its best.
Chupke Chupke: Another comedy from Hrishikesh Mukherjee to make its place in the top-five. Great star cast, and great script, songs are okay. Om Prakash steals the show with excellent acting. Garam-Dharam is good too. Amitabh was all right. A movie, which can be watched many times.
Monsoon Wedding: A great Mira Nair flick. There is nothing much to the story, but still this movie became such a huge hit because of its simple presentation and great acting from Naseeruddin Shah. Mira Nair is a director who can call a spade a spade, without going for unnecessary bollywoody rona-dhona and nacha-gaana she gave us a nice and crisp movie.
Sarfarosh: Although this movie had some negative points (Sonali Bendre, unnecessary songs etc), still this movie makes in the top 10 because of great suspense story and nice acting from Amir Khan and Naseerudding Shah. I haven?t seen many good Indian suspense movies like this one recently.
Saagar: Excellent performance from Kamal Hassan and great music from R.D.Burman drags this movie to the top-10. Kamal Hassan proves why he has always been considered as the best actor of his generation.
Deewar: Another Amitabh movie where Amitabh solely takes the movie on his shoulder and gives an astonishing performance. After this movie essentially the Amitabh-era in the bollywood started. A must-watch for all the Big-B fans.
Bawarchi: I end with another comedy from Hrishikesh Mukherjee. This is an excellent and crisp movie that had a very unique story. A movie that can be watched many times. A must-watch.
I welcome your comments, be it positive, or negative.
