Another Saturday, the weekend has already begun to relax, enjoy the small things in life, catch up with old friends and re-live my old college days at St. Xavier’s, read the newspapers even though they are almost repetitive and watch some great movies (usually its more than one!).
There are many movies that I like to watch over and over again, simply because they leave an ever-lasting impression on the mind. And that’s the precise reason why I am writing this review under this category!
What follows next is my top ten all time favorite Hindi movies. But ofcourse, these are my personal picks, but then I won’t be surprised if they are yours too!
So, lets get the ball rolling:
1) Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: The undoubtedly best Indian movie made so far- I know many will agree with me with this one! The story is about a happy go lucky guy with loads of self-confidence who finally gets his ladylove by winning over her family! The conceptualization, script, visualization, wonderful direction, acting by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, wonderful songs make it a complete movie! This one is a must see, incase you have managed to miss it!
2) Andaz Apna Apna: AAA is perhaps the finest comedy Hindi movie ever made. Aamir Khan- Salman Khan creating a laugh riot magic on the silver screen. Furthermore, this movie is full of characters worth remembering all your life like Shakti Kapoor playing Crime Master Gogo; Paresh Rawal playing Teja with Vasco D Gamma’s gun and his two assistants; Tiku Talsania as the police inspector looking for thugs to inaugurate his new police station and not to forget the sweet characters played by Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor!
3) Dil Chahta Hain: Aamir Khan, Akshay Khanna, Priety Zinta and Saif Ali Khan leaving a tingle in the souls of the urban youth of India. The key element of this movie is its identification factor with the three characters. Simple yet wonderfully presented with touch of comedy and romance in the backdrop!
4) Khiladi- A suspense thriller, wonderful action, lively comedy especially by Johnny Lever, melodious songs! Akshay Kumar and Deepak Tijori taking on the center stage! Unlike other suspense movies, this one- you wouldn’t mind seeing it again!
5) Hera Pheri- Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty pair up in this hilarious flick concerning the struggling middle class youth of India. Racy story line and great timing for comedy! Many would say that this was more a Paresh Rawal movie rather than an Akshay- Suniel movie! Wasn’t it?!
6) Chasme Buddor: Or may I say the Miss. Chamko movie?!...lol! Awesome sweet simple movie about three guys sharing an apartment at New Delhi and their sweet nothings! Faroque Sheikh, Rakesh Bedi, Deepti Naval, Saeed Jafri and Ravi Vaswani.
7) Kucch Kucch Hota Hain: Beautiful piece of creative work made on a large canvas. The movie brings out a very debatable point- can best friends also fall in love with each other and go on to spend rest of their lives with each other? Well, this movie goes on to show why the answer is in the affirmative! Well directed, soulful songs, Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee brought out their characters beautiful to make this movie as masterpiece.
8) Golmaal: A bitter and sweet, old fashioned boss played by Utpal Dutt having a weird principle in life that people with moustache have more brains than the clean shaven! Amol Palekar, who is in love with his boss’s daughter, comes up with a memorable performance, by being two brothers with contrasting characters- Ram Prasad a simple guy with moustache to please his boss and his imaginative brother Lakshman Prasad who is a carefree chap and yes without moustache!
9) Munna Bhai MBBS: A very intelligent movie, I think. For simple minds, it is a comedy movie. However, I wouldn’t mind this movie being clubbed as a satire making a mockery of the Indian medical system. Sanjay Dutt gives one of his best performances till date. And who can ever forget his friend cum assistance Circuit (shortened from Circuiteshwar...Jeez!). This movie delivers a valid observation that doctors treats patients as mere subjects. Whereas Sanjay Dutt, being a local goon, has a big heart, reaches out to all sections of society- be it poor or rich, young or old and befriends them.....sometimes his character bring tears to the eyes! A must see! Hat’s off to you Sanju Baba:-)
10) Ek Aur Ek Gyarah: Yet another great flick, this time with the touch of Punjabi lingo! I remember watching this movie with people laughing continuously for the entire length of the movie in the cinema hall! I was laughing too! Sanjay Dutt once again, this time with Govinda! The story is about two small time thugs having a fling with the villain Cobra played by Ashish Vidyarthi, creating magic across the Indian audience with their nonsensical comedy!
And the list can go on and on..lol! Hmm, I wouldn’t mind stretching the list with a few more movies like Govinda’s Hadd Kardi Aapne, Aamir Khan’s classic Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Dharmendra’s Chupke Chupke, and Govinda’s Hatya.
However, these top ten would always remain there as far as I am concerned. Perhaps you have observed that I am more into lively movies with a touch of romance and comedy! Well, you are bang on then!
I hope you have enjoyed reading this review as much as I have enjoyed penning it down!
Thanks for your time in reading this review and your rating and comments (in advance)!
Till next time,
Keep smiling INDIA, Chhail;-)
