TALENT'S GALORE

Well, this is again a nice subject to write on and already we’ve seen a few good reviews on this. This obviously prompted me to put in my side of the story and share my opinions with all the great reviewers of MouthShut.

Here goes my list -

  1. Vasant Desai – One of the classiest music director this country has given us. An absolute genius of Classical Music and their applied forms.

  2. S. D. Burman – Most versatile music director in every form of music. His use of Indian classical, Western Classical and Folk tunes are unmatched. Had the ability of bringing out the best of any singer.

  3. Madan Mohan – Another impeccable musician. His accuracy and sense of notes was the best, even the senior Burman acknowledged that.

  4. Hemant Kumar – The Royal Bengal touch to the most popular form of music. He was a great composer of true pensive tunes.

  5. Shankar Jaikishen – The most widely acclaimed duo in this field. Their beautiful application of north Indian folk tunes and beats, sets them apart.

  6. Salil Choudury – Another great composer, the only predecessor of Puncham, who experimented with various types of beats. He’s given us some touchy, catchy tunes with topsy-turvy beats, which are full with life and love.

  7. Khaiyyam – The great ghazal exponent, who nutured the soft yet firm forms of ghazal, with some beautifully orchestrated songs, where the music itself explained the verse.

  8. R. D. Burman – This man is the ambassador of the fusion of Western and Indian music. The best beats have come from him, and so have come the best orchestra & instrumentations. He married the older genre of Indian film music with the Western music world – and gave birth to the true Modern Indian Music – all the rest have just followed him.

  9. Vanraj Bhatia – He is perhaps the most thinking musician. This is because he’s all along been associated with the parallel cinema, where music is not just music, it’s a performance which sums up the depictions of the vision on the celluloid.

  10. Jagjit Singh – Though this gentleman has been into a very selective class of non-film music, but it’ll never undermine his credibility of his assignments with films. He simultaneously modernized the ghazals and created poetry with music.

I hope that this list will find everyone finding out his/her favourite music composers. The people whom I’ve missed out are of no less ability – but it’ll be just a bit less space to fit them in. I hope I do not hurt anybody.
