*ABOUT GULZAAR*
Gulzaar.the name itself speaks about what his lyrics can do to his fans. *Safed Kauwa*, as his pal Pancham called him, his real name was **Sampooran Singh**. He was born in Deena, which is now in Pakistan. He started his career as a lyricist with *Bimal Roy’s **Bandini***, with his first song *Mora Gora Ang layee le*.
Gulzaar turned to film direction with *Mere Apne* in 1971. In his films too, Gulzaarsaab retained the soul of a poet.
Gulzaarsaab also gave a huge contribution to the small screen when he did *Mirza Galib* for television.
*MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES*
*1. Tujhse Naraaz nahi jindagi*
This gem from the film ***Masoom*** earned him the filmfare award for 1983, just one of the many he got.
Aankh agar bhar aayee to
Boonde chalak jaayegi.
Kal kya pata, inke liye,
Aankhe taras jaayegi.
*2. Mera Kuch Saamaan*
The magical team of Gulzaarsaab-R.D.Burman-Asha Bhonsle cast their spell in this free verse, from the film ***Ijaazat***, in the year 1987(I may be wrong about the year). This song earned the **National Award** for Gulzaarsaab. In fact, all songs from this film were great. One can never forget the songs like **Katra Katra**and **Khaali haath shaam aayee hain**.
*3. Dil Dhundata hain*
This wonderful song from ***Mausam*** was a treat for the audience. Tuned by **Madan Mohan**, this song came in two moods - both in different tunes. Year 1976.
*4. Tere Bina Jindagi se koi*
Well.what can I say about this bliss? The nostalgic mood of this song is bound to take over your heart and soul. **R.D.Burman** has done justice to the soulful https://lyrics. What adds to that nostalgia are the dialogues that are intertwined in-between the song.in the expressive voice of Sanjeev Kumar and the distinguished tone of Suchitra Sen. From the film ***Aandhi***, released in 1975. Also add **Is Mod se Jaate Hain** from the same film.
*5. Hawaaon pe likh doon*
This was a song that, according to me, was the first to show a glimpse of that sensitive mind of Gulzaarsaab. From the film ***Do duni chaar***, this song was tuned to music by ***Hemant Kumar***. The year was 1968.
*6. Musafir hoon Yaaron*
The team of Gulzaar and R.D.Burman came together for the very first time. Over the years, this pair gave many more hit creations. But this was their very first song together, in the film ***Parichay*** in 1972.
*7. Maine Tere Liye hi*
This song from ***Anand***, released in 1973, was indeed a song that touched your heart.
Choti baaten, choti choti baaton ki hain yaaden badi
Bhoole nahi, beeti hui ek choti ghadi
Music by ***Salil Chowdhury***.
*8. Hazaar Raahe mud ke dekhi*
This song from ***Thodi si Bewafai*** was another Filmfare award winner in the year 1980. Music by Khaiyyam.
*9. Aanewala Pal Jaanewala Hain*
This award winning song from ***Golmaal*** was a three way treat. Beautiful lyrics, mind blowing music by ***R.D.Burman*** and superb singing by ***Kishore Kumar***. The year was 1979.
*10. A aa e ee*
Gulzaarsaab’s evergreen children’s song from ***Kitaab***. For trivia seekers, ***R.D.Burman*** had specially brought in school benches in the studio for the rhythm of the song, to give it the authentic schoolboys colour. The year was 1978.
*P.S.- *Considering the amount of quality work Gulzaarsaab has done, I am going past the allotted mark of 10. Please allow me this liberty, as the garden of flowers still has many other beautiful flowers to be picked.**
*11. Naam Gum jaayega*
Only Lata could have sung this song. Fantastic lyrics with beautiful music by ***R.D.Burman***. Film was ***Kinaara*** and the year, 1977.
*12. Tum Pukaar lo*
Mesmerizing music and voice of ***Hemant Kumar***, what was forgotten amidst this were the soulful https://lyrics. Superb number from ***Khamoshi***, released in 1969. One more lyrical bliss from this film was **Wo shaam kuch ajeeb thee**.
*13. Chaddi pahan ke phool khila hain*
Even Walt Disney would have been amazed at the way Gulzaarsaab has described the character Mowgli of Jungle book. One of the many title songs he wrote for television. Music by ***Vishal Bharadwaj***.
*14. Surmai shaam Is tarah aaye*
In fact, all songs from this film ***Lekin*** were great. Released in 1990, and tuned by Hridaynath Mangeshkar, one cannot forget the songs like **Joothe naina bole, Yara sili sili** and **Kesariya Balma**.
*15. Raah pe rahte hain*
The film was ***Namkeen***. The year was 1981. Also worth mentioning is the song **Aanki chali Baanki chali**, with Gulzaarsaab’s commentary in between. Check this out.
*16. Thodi si zameen*
Again teamed up with his favourite ***Pancham***, this is a song you should not miss. The film was ***Sitara***, and the year was 1980.
*17. Do Deewane shahar mein*
Check this number from ***Gharonda***. The year was 1978. Also check out the other extreme of this thought **Ek akela is shahar mein**.
*IN CONCLUSION*
Well folks.the garden still has many flowers, but I will wind up now as the review has gone well above the patience of the reader! Hehe!
