Hey guys Happy New Year!
Year 2003, was not the best year for music industry. Compare it to the year 2002 where you had Saathiya, Devdaas, Sur, Kaante. This year we did not have a great musical hit.
Year had mindless remixes which get bolder with each video. You have two companies doing the same remix each making the video more daring then other.
I can tell you the formula for making a remix album
Mix an english hit with an old hindi song.Make a bold video and you get a hit music video.
Following this genre were
Kaanta Lagaa, Chadti jaawani, Mere Naseeb .
The year belongs to Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy who scored hummable numbers in Kal ho na ho, Kuchh na Kaho.
A.R Rahman was disappointing.
There was rise Cross over cinama like Mumbai Matinee, Joggers Park etc music not being very important part of these movies.
My favorites, from both Bollywood and english music industry would be, these are the songs which when played in any music station, I would not switch channels:-
Chalte Chalte
Suno na Suno - Hummable, Light romantic number
Dum
Babujee - I love this song. A danceitem number. The song has been sung well. The song has earthy feel to it.
Jism
a) Jaddo he Nasha
b) Chalo tum ko le chale
Both the songs are very sensuous and sung well.
Kal Ho Naa Ho
Mahi ve – A song similar toShava Shava. A typical of Karan Johars movie.
Other songs which are good are -
Har Ghadi, Pretty woman
Mumbai Matinee
Loot Gaye - If you compare other item numbers with this one, this is far better then the rest. The song has been choreographed well, has a nice feel to it.
Jhankaar beats
Tu hai asmaan - A hummable number.
Boom - The movie failed miserably, but the songs in this movie were good
The two punjabi numbers from the film
Bach ke rahi, See you baby shaking that. were interesting numbers
Beyonce Knowles
Crazy in Love, Baby Boy
Both the songs are great.
Other worth mentioning album is Kuch na Kaho
Any ways guys lets hope 2004 is a musical year and we have great sound tracks.
