An enchanting experience

This is a widely discussed topic. There would be very few mortals who wouldn’t like the compositions of A.R.Rehman. Well, I may be taking it a bit too far, but then, his music has some magic which can only be experienced.

Nowadays, there are quite a few complaints that most of his songs are a rehash of the older tunes. But, being a big fan of Rehman, it’s just natural that I overlook some of his’not-so-good’ ones. Some of his tunes have such a soothing effect, that I feel it can also make way into the topic’How to handle depression’(Whenever I feel stressed out, I just close my eyes and listen to them).

5 of the songs in my list are tamil numbers, but I’ve given the name of the hindi equivalents for some. I am sorry I didn’t give the names of the singers. That’s because I don’t know who sang in Tamil and who in Hindi, and this requires a big research. Will do that the next time I venture to write.

So, here goes my list

10.Awara bhawre.(Sapney): Though the movie hasn’t been a commercial success, the songs were a big hit. All the numbers were good, but, this is my fav song in this album. The song Chanda re. is another worthwhile number from this album.

9.Ajuba ajooba.(Jeans): It was the first song which caught all the seven wonders of the world. The music blended so well with the visuals, and Ash truly was an ajooba. The remaining songs of this movie are fast numbers, this one is relatively soft on our ears.

8. Kanna muchi enada.(Kandukondein kandukondein): It’s a tamil song. The movie was extremely boring, but the songs stand out becoz of their classical touch. The song, smayeyaye. is a peppy number from this album and is also melodious to listen to.

7.Tu hi re.(Bombay): This is one immensely likeable album of A.R.Rehman. All the songs of this movie are wonderful, but, this song is soul-touching. This song always finds its way into the top list of anyone’s review.

6.Yeh haseen vaadiyaan.(Roja): Who can ever forget the songs of Roja. I love all the songs from this movie, but, then, the list would have to be top 20 or 30. So, I stick to my favourite song from Roja. The song and the music describe the picterisque Kashmir so well, that words cannot describe it.

5.O humdum soniyo re.(Saathiya): More than the starting of this song, I just like the beats- Dheem dheem thanana. Sorts of uplifts your mood. About the movie, well, I liked the tamil original better.

4.Anjali anjali.(Duet): Many of u may not have listened to this song. It’s a tamil movie featuring Meenakshi sheshadiri and prabhu(not prabhudeva, the one in kaala paani). I haven’t seen the movie, this song is really marvelous. But, the remaining songs of this movie are not so good.

3.Puthum pudu bhoomi.(Thiruda thiruda): It’s one of my favourite songs. This movie has been dubbed into hindi(Chor chor), but, the lyrics are not so good in hindi. So, I chose to mention the tamil song. I don’t know if Rehman knows about the visuals before creating the tunes. Otherwise, how do the songs gel so well with them?

2.Kannukku mizhiazhagu.(pudhiya mugham): The remaining two songs are from the same movie. The lyrics of this song are so wonderful. One of the most romantic songs ever. This movie has been remade in hindi. Viswavidhata. The movie was a flop. This song goes like ’nazron ke milne se.’ in hindi. But, as I said, lyrics also played an important role.

And the award goes to.

1.Ithuthaan kaadhal enbatha.(pudhiya mugham): It’s my all time favourite song. From the same movie as above. I cannot point out exactly what I like so much about this song, but, I listen to it almost daily with the same josh. In hindi, the song goes like Kal nahi tha woh kya hai, aaj hai..

I am sorry I couldn’t include some of other lovely songs in my revu. Other songs which I like include’Radha kaise na jale’ from Lagaan and almost all songs of tamil move’New’(Naani in telugu).

If you haven’t listened to the above songs, do it NOW! I am sure you’ll love it as well!
