It would be hard for someone to choose ten of the very best or favorite sports personalities as all the sports unlike before are becoming popular world-wide along with emerging players.
If asked to choose ten favorite personalities then most of the players would be from soccer as I follow this game more than anyother. So here are my ten of the very best:
1] Wayne Rooney -- Soccer
The young emerging star in English football is among the hottest players on field in terms of performance.He proved his worth as an international striker at the Euro 2004 and has since then continued his good form for Manchester United.He has also been nominated for the Emerging Player of 2004.I would not be surprised if he picks up this award.
2] Johny Wilkinson -- Rugby
After a very mute beginning to the world cup the suddenly blossomed.As the games went on he proved his worth.It was his last minute field goal that helped England lift the Rugby WC last year.He has since than hit by injuries but he did enough to be at the second spot.
3] Steve Waugh -- Cricket
One of the best batsman and captain that Cricket has ever produced in its long history.Recently retired from Internation Cricket he helped Australia to victory in 1999 WC.During his time he was considered as a cricketing god all over as he is now.Kolkata was his favorite place.
4] Lance Amstrong -- Cycling
Six time tour-de-France champion deserves to be at the fourth spot.He is considered as a cycling god.
5] Sachin Tendulkar -- Cricket
Started playing cricket at the top level since he was a teenager.Now he is 27+ and still playing.He has passed almost all records in cricket and has scored 10000+ runs in both the ODI’s as well as Test Cricket.He deserves to be a bit higher but his recent form has put him down.
6] Michael Schumacher -- F1
Considered as F1 legend he has won the championship more than anyone else. Although this season has been dissapointing so far with no win in the opening 3 races, he deserves to be at the 6th spot.
7] Eric Cantona -- Football
The French internation who played for Man utd is still feared by defenders.He has bought Man utd to the place where they are now and although he has quit international football he still plays beach football.
8] Sohail Abbas -- Hockey
The Pakistani legend has scored more than 270 international goals more than any other.He is a penalty-corner specialist and because of his all-round performance Pakistan is ranked among the top 10 teams in international hockey.
9] Allen Iverson -- Basketball
Co-captain of USA at the 2004 Olympics he is in the form of his life.He is the 10th fastest player to reach 14, 000 points.
10]Zidane -- Soccer
World-Cup winner Zidane decided to quit international football because of the pressure put on him by other Arsenal players in the French squad.
Since his retirement France have not won any of thier of last 3 internationals.He scored the winner against Leverkeusen in the Champions League Final.
