Its early days for me on MS, and generally whenever online, I try and navigate the site. Earlier yesterday, I had stumbled upon the Requested Reviews link(somehow I cant find it today). and I saw that someone had requested a review for 10 songs that teach us something. I ignored it at that time, but the thought refused to leave my consciousness. And songs started popping in my head, and I started trying to analyse them. So here I am with the songs which do teach me something. though I have one complaint, why just 10 songs?(lol)
- Ek din bik jaayega maati ke mol, jag mein reh jaayenge pyaare tere bol, dooje ke honthon ko de kar apne geet, koi nishani chorh, phir duniya se dol:
To someone who is as hot tempered as I am, and doesnt think even once before speaking, this songs tells me that the words I speak remain in the listeners memory long after I have forgotten them, and they will remain there long after I am gone. It reminds me that if I am a bit careful with my words, I can get my point across, and yet not hurt the listener.
- Ae Mere pyaare vatan, ae mere bichde chaman, tujh pe dil kurbaan
Tu hi mere aarzoo, tu hi meri aabroo, tu hi meri jaan(Kabuliwala)
This song is very personal to me. I used to sing this song to myself when I was in Leeds, alone in a crowd, totally alienated, and missing my family and my country horribly. It used to comfort me no end, that no matter where I am, I am, and will remain an Indian, and proud to be one. It shows the true yearning of someone away from his motherland, who is constantly hoping to come back.
- Chorh de saari duniya kisi ke liye, ye munasib nahi aadmi ke liye,
pyaar se bhi zaroori kai kaam hain, pyaar sab kuch nahi zindagi ke liye(Saraswati Chandra)
Kya boloon, jab dil toot jaata hai, aisa lagta hai ki san khatam ho gaya hai. But you realise that no matter what life goes on. You need to put on your everyday face, go out in the world and face it.
- Tu Pyaar ka saagar hai, teri ik boond ke pyaase hum,
lauta jo diya tune, chale jaayenge yahan se hum(Seema)
I dont know what to say here. Manna De brings tears to my eyes, every time I hear this song. It shows how we must surrender to the All mighty, and ask Him to hold on to us in tough times.
Idhar jhoomke gaaye zindagi
Udhar hai maut khadi
Koi kya jaane kahan hai seema
Uljhan aan padi
Kaanon mein zara keh de
Ke aaye kaun disha se hum
Done ever give up in face of difficulties, life is a battle, and only the worthy fight it. God is there to help us, but first we must need to make a resolve.
- Kasme Waade pyaar vafa sab, baatein hain baaton ka kya.
Koi kisi ka nahi ye jhoothe naate hain, naaton ka kya(Upkaar)
As per me, this song perfectly delivers the message of Sri Bhagvad Geeta. It reminds us that everything in this world is temporary, you might be the apple of someones eye one moment, and the same person might decieve you the next moment. Similarly, all the wealth of the world can not give you happiness, it has to come from within.
- Jeevan ke din chote sahi, hum bhi bade dil wale,
kal ki hamein fursat kahan, soche jo hum matwale(Bade dil wala)
Shows the invincibility of life, and the strenght of the human spirit. Even when faced with defeat, you can hold up your head high, and stare defeat in the eye. "Khudi ko kar buland itna, ki har taqdeer se pehle Khuda bande se ye poche bata teri raza kia hai".
- Allah Tero naam, Eeshwar tero naam,
Sab ko sanmati de Bhagwaan
Maangon kaa sendoor naa chhoote
maan bahanon kee aans naa toote
deh binaa bhatake naa paran
O saare jag ke rakhawaale
nirbal ko bal denewaale
balawaanon ko de de dynaaan(Hum Dono)
Tolerance, one Allmighty God. This was Gandhijis favorite bhajan, and the lyrics explain why. I wish all the politicians, terrorists, and religious fanatics listen to this bhajan everyday, and try and imbibe its values in their life.
- Koi sone ke dil wala, koi chaandi ke dil wala,
sheeshe ka hai matwale tera dil,
ki mehfil ye nahi teri, deewane kahin chal(Maya)
Ahhhhhh, the tragedy of being a misfit, and the human minds constant search for a like mind. We all face this dilemna sometime or the other, when the urge to just walk away from the materialistic world overwhelms us.
Us ladkhadaati hui naav ko jo kisi ne kinaara dikhaaya
Aisa hi sukh mere mann ko mila hai, main jab se sharan teri aaya, mere Ram
I just cant help it, This song gives me so much peace, so much solace whenever I listen to it. I dont even remember who sang it, or which movie it belongs to. I just listen to it, and I feel that all is right with the world. It gives me strength and faith that there is a super power, who is there to take care of me.
And last but not the least.
- Yun hi chala chal raahi
Yun hi chala chal raahi
Kitni haseen hai ye duniya
Bhool saare jamele, dekh phoolon ke mele
Badi rangeen hai duniya
Ye raasta hai keh raha ab mujhse
Milne ko hai koyi kahin ab tujhse
Yun hi chala chal raahi
Yun hi chala chal raahi
Jeevan gaadi hai samay pahiya
Aansoon ki nadiya bhi hai
Khushiyon ki bagiya bhi hai
Rasta sab tera takke bhaiya
Listen to this song early in the morning, and I can bet you anything, that you will spend the whole day smiling, Udit Narayan, Kailash Kher and Hariharan create a trance, and you just wanna close your eyes and sing along.yun hi chala chal raahi.
(I know most of them are old songs. but somehow I feel the soul and the spirit of the music of Burman Saab, Madanmohan ji, Khayyam Saabcannot be captured by the modern day music makers)
