Very tough to write this review. There are many Dis-Honorable mentions that deserve(!) an entry here but selecting only 10 that have really troubled me over last few years. Some of the inclusions were super hit movies. They are included for being dishonest to the subject & for their mediocrity. My biggest pet-peeve is War/Freedom Struggle movies made by Bollywood. These are really GHONCHU movies with some obviously substandard patriotic scenes. Here is the list:
-1942 A Love Story-
I am a natural critic, so pardon me my pet-peeve is people making mediocre movies on serious topic specifically related to wars/freedom struggle. This movie doesn’t give a damn to the freedom struggle. Hero(!?) goes to freedom fighter as his lover refuses to go to him!(What a pity: Muzhe bhi tumhare main le lo!) Vidhu Vinod Chopra says’Meri competition to idhar ke logose hain hi nahi.meri to sirf hollywood se comparison hain’’I wanted to take 1947 initially but that would have been too controversial & stuff so I took 1942!’ What a thought! Wow! Great thinking.1942 le liya! He also said’He got idea from a couple seating under a tree in Kashmir when Terrorist/Military were fighting & this couple had no worry or no regard to what was going around them, they just cared about love.’ Now tell me, a movie born out of such shallow thoughts should be called a bastxxx movie!:)
1942 / 1947, Terrorism or patriotism.Spliting versus freedom struggle.! By Choosing 1942 instead of 1947, Vidhu Vinod Chopra caved in & selected a safe path. It also showed his cheap mentality to avoid controversy. But with this one decision he made his story & the couple look rediculous.
You can support a couple to protest against the terrorism, splitting of the nations or the riots at that times but a couple opposing & looking at freedom struggle as a DEEWAR between them.! Priorities ka sawal hain na!?
In one song the freedom fighters or a march of Indian people crosses Manisha while she is singing; she suddenly stops with a frightened face! As if these suckers demanding freedom for India are against her love!:) Hope you understand that Vidhu started with Love Versus Terrorism or Falni but ended up choosing freedom struggle!*:(
R.D Braman’s sublime music, Anil, Manisha, Jackie’s wonderful perf wasted! Only good dialog from the movie is by Anupam Kher:’Sara Desh swatantrata ke liye lad raha hian aur tumhe pyar karane ki padi hain!?’
-Border-
Again, do not jump conclusion that I am a bit unfair here. This movie insults the people that actually died protecting our land. Here the movie shows a serious officer standing on a line(LOC) & look at Paki soldiers & laugh like Ha Ha Ha.! & nobody shoots at him even though it is a easy target! Pakis get frightened looking at him in a daylight.
Sunil Shetty: a BIG ghutana, fights with a soldier(Indian!).ye mitti meri maaa hain.ise kuchh mat kehena.soldeirs makes fun of him etc. Then at the ned he goes to Paki tank with a bomb in hand saying jai kali man jai kali man.50+ soldiers shoot at him with Ak47 & even then he keeps going & then plants a bomb under a tank & it blows! Wow! What a stupid war-scene.!
The movie spends TOO much of a time in the Goan with Puja Bhat, Akshay Khanna, Rakhi episode, has unnecessary songs.(2 very good songs though). People needed such Pak bashing movie in the 50th anniversary of freedom & thats the only reason this movie was big hit.
-Karamdata-
What a movie man! Mithun as a Hero, Amrita Singh as a heroine, Bhappi as a music director & Shabbir as a singer. Can it get any better than this EVER? This one song is enough to illustrate how bad this movie was: Gali, Gali Badanaam ho gayaa, Mere Pyar ka meter down ho gaya in Shabbir’s voice! Please hear it once for me.
-Mard-
Jo Mard hota hain use dard nahi hota! like cheap dialogs from an actor like Amitabh. Only Manmohan Desai can take the legend to lower levels. No no it is Mrutyudata producer who also happens to produce Tiranga. Shabbir is also at large in this movie: Mard Tangewala hun main & Sun Rubiya pyra ho gaya, Lambu Tambu main bambu lagaye baithe: Vulgar song. Dara Singh stops an airplane from taking off & what not. Great stuff.

-Tufaan/Jaadugar-
Wow! This should top the list of Amitabh’s stupid movies or maybe not, Jaadugar will give Tufaan a run for its money. Aaaya Aaaya Tufaan, Bhaga Bhaga Bhaga Shaitan. One funny brother & other fighter who always comes with a tufaan with him! What a great idea. Why no one could think of it before.
It took the almighty to send’pakawu’ masala movie king Manmohan Desai to this world. He gave AAA as good entertaining movie. Well, Naseeb wasn’t that bad either but this one along with Ganga Jamuna Saraswati are examples of how Amitabh trusted these directors & how they ruined him & his super-stardom! Padosan Apani murgi ko rakhna sambhal.double meaning song filmed in a more vulgar way on Amitabh.
-Raam-Jaane-
I had a misfortune of watching this thoroughly mediocre movie. Shahrukh is well, Shahrukh so you know what I mean!:) He does some really ghonchu dialogs & ends with his characteristic haaik.faaiaakk or some strange voice coming out his throat!:)’nuff said.
-Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi prem kahani-
A big title & a ultra-stupid movie.mix of a bunch of Hollywood movie scenes, T2, MI-2 & what not. Tons of senseless scenes & logic less screen-play. Manisha, Arman Kohli, Akshay, Sunny, Sonu Nigam, Siddharth & many more make it to the star-cast. It was highly entertaining dumb movie! A MUST see!:)
-Dev Anand’s movies from 80s-
Dev has lost all his bhakts due to his movies from the 80s. He continues to produce’Bhikar’ movies & every time claims to have a masterpiece. Hardly any plot, bad execution, total lack of reasonable screenplay & what not! Example: Return of Jewel Thief, Bhagwan Dada?, Lashkar? etc etc
