We all wait for that one chance which’ll change our life for the better. Some may get the chance easily while some don’t inspite of trying their level best. At such a point, a person might give up or he/she may the hatke or the less taken and maybe the immoral route to succeed. Tere Bin Laden tells the tale of a person who fools the entire world, especially the most important country-US just to fulfill his dream. Easily one of the funniest films in recent times, Tere Bin Laden shall surely a put a smile on your face. The charming performance and the originality of the script is the icing on the cake!
The story of the movie: Ali Hassan (Ali Zafar) is an ambitious news reporter of Danka TV, which is run by Majeed Khan (Piyush Mishra). Ali’s only aim in life is to migrate to US. However, repeated attempts to get the American visa fail. One day, he comes across Noora (Pradhuman Singh), owner of poultry farm, who is an Osama lookalike. Ali then hatches a simple but witty plan-he decides to make a fake Osama video and sell it to the news channels. The plan is set in motion, the video is shot and Ali sells it for a handsome price too. However, unfortunately for him, it brings out unexpected results.
Tere Bin Laden deals with terrorism, Afghanistan war, US secret operations in Pakistan and not to forget, Osama Bin Laden. And yet, there’s not a single serious moment in the entire film! It is abound with funny sequences from start to finish. The film makes a sweeping dig on the stereotypes of Westerners and their ‘we-are-superior-and-know-it-all attitude’.
The film begins with a scene that wasn’t that funny but nevertheless sets the mood. The film gets on track when Ali discovers the Osama lookalike. From here, the film is an excellent ride! The manner in which Ali and his gang record the video without the duplicate Osama knowing the entire truth was brilliant and smartly thought of! The entire sequence involving the Americans planning to nab Osama was bizarre and perfectly projects the Western mindset. However, it is the last 30 minutes where the main action takes place which not only keeps you engrossed but entertains as well! And finally, the climax was quick but was simply perfect and you marvel at the director-writer who thought of such a cool and uncomplicated culmination!
However, inspite of so many plusses, the film falters at some places too. The film somehow doesn’t absorb you completely. The film is funny without a shred of doubt but the humour isn’t such that’ll make you fall of the chair. But yet, it surely gives a nice time and that’s enough reason to go and watch it!
Every actor has given a commendable performance. Ali Zafar is a stunning discovery and does a brilliant job. He looks awesome and performs his part confidently. What a week indeed…Bollywood got 2 new actors on one Friday-Rajat Barmecha of Udaan and now Ali! Let’s hope both go a long way! Pradhuman Singh was the star attraction of the film and does an outstanding job! His accent, his mannerisms and of course his act as the Osama was out of this world! Even the real Osama Bin Laden would smile after watching Pradhuman in Tere Bin Laden! Sugandha Garg (Zoya), who shot to fame with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na gives a topnotch performance. Piyush Mishra as usual was rocking and brings the house down when he falls in the gutter! Barry John leaves a mark as the overzealous secret agent. Rahul Singh as the Communist RJ was natural but was relegated to backseat in the later part. Chirag Vohra (Lateef), Nikhil Ratnaparkhi (Gul), Chinmay Mandlekar (secret agent’s assistant) and the rest do a fine job.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is good, although not great. Ullu Da Patha is obviously the best song. I Love Amreeka is also a fine track. Dhruv Dhalla’s background score works well. Santosh Tundiyil’s cinematography was appropriate.
