Cheers!!! The Friday spirit is here !!!

Thank Goodness its Friday (popularly, TGI Friday’s) is the most happening hangouts in Delhi (may be India too !). Located in the ‘Piazza’( Basent lok Basement Complex, Vasant vihar), it is the most frequented places by the Delhi’s glitterati.

It provides great food & drink, friendly service, heady ambience and fun atmosphere. The place can seat 250 people, split over two levels, but insist on table upstairs, for the display of feminine pulchritude.

The ambience:

Few signature themes like, red &White colors, the striped table cloth, bent wood furniture, tiffany lamps, racing skull and semi-precious memorablia add to the ambience.

The Colours of the restaurant are related to fairgrounds, namely “Barnum & Baileys” . P.T. Barnum was known as “The Greatest Showman on Earth” and is the man credited with inventing the ringed circus as we know it today. His circus tents were huge red & white striped marquees (as represented in café ceilings) and his posters were blue with yellow graphics (the colors that are used on the outside of the building and in the big yellow neon signs).

Don’t worry about that airplane propeller dropping on you, its srewed on the wall.(or so they claim.) The Propeller in the bar is meant to remind that the bar was the start up of the Friday’s engine, it’s what made it famous and propelled them to success.   Any visiting V.I.P.’s will sign a bill and tape it to the propeller as a sign of good luck for the future.

Traffic lights by the entrance   are to remind us to STOP, THINK & then GO! They are placed there to distract attention from the entrance where there can be a lot of traffic. In upper dining is the tiffany picture of the swan. There to remind us to stay calm, don’t flap and avoid the weeds!

The “Beware Of The Trains” sign above the urinals in the gents is a joke… all those men lined up at the urinals as if they were on a platform.

Mirrors are placed all around the restaurant so that if singles want to ‘eye up’ other singles they can do it discreetly… this is a throw back to the days of the singles bar

. The Peacock tiffany above the door is to remind staff to take pride in their appearance and not be afraid of showing off! Also, of course, it represents the male peacock trying to attract a female… another singles bar thing!

The cups and trophies around the restaurant are to represent Friday’s standard of EXCELLENCE.

Instruments are in the clutter all around the restaurant. They represent people working together is harmony.

Teamwork is also represented by the rowboat. All team members need to work together to win the race! If one player rows out of time then the boat doesn’t run smoothly and can’t win the race.

There are lots of other stories hidden in the walls of a TGI Friday’s , Ask around and see what else you can find out!

The Food:

Don’t go to TGI Friday’ if you don’t know what kind of food you’re in the mood for. The menu is the size of a small booklet , and every chapter has something especially good to offer. The variety of offerings includes Tex-Mex, Italian, seafood, steak, burgers and sandwiches.

The food here is exceptionally good, (Too Good In Food),

TGI Friday’s offers wide selection of appetizers, entrée salads, pasta dishes and most popular entrees such as Friday’s Jack Daniel Grill. The Potato skins and Friday rolls are Yummy… If your hungry try ‘Wrappers’, in three variations, Hot chilly Cheesesteak, the grilled chicken and the veggie all of which are wrapped in wheat flat bread, Otherwise, go for either Spicy prawns, tender port ribs, chicken muscova or Angratin.

The mocktails are the most varied you can find, Hawaiin Volcano, mudslide, daiquiri, the best is Margarita (Made with tequila and conintreau, Its ultimate. The cocktails aren’t bad either, White Russian, Hurricane and of course, Frozen Margarita…

You can enjoy Happy Hours by getting one for one beverage during Happy Hours Nothing costs more than Rs.100!!! Check out new Day Light Menu( Applicable between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm daily), they serve you everything from soups, salads, and snacks to pastas, pizzas and a delightful main course meal… easy on the wallet, tasty on the tongue.

Service: The wait staff wear goofy outfits with striped shirts and doo-dads all over their suspenders. They are smart and their service is superior. Some bartenders can mix up drinks ‘Cocktail’ style.

Well its pricey enough, but tell me which decent joint in Delhi, isn’t. The Bistro, the Jazz bar, Piano bar are all five star rates.

On the whole, The TGI Friday’s is a refreshing concept which embodies all the fun and camaraderie and “let your hair down” feeling that comes before a weekend and distils that spirit in to a wonderful, casual dining experience .
