The Angry Birds movie is surprisingly good given the source material. It’s a pale shadow of a Pixar film, but the kids in the theater all seemed to enjoy it.
On the plus side, the animation is great, the voice acting is solid, and the inevitable battle between pigs and birds was well orchestrated. The movie also does a great job of capturing the personalities of Red, Chuck, Terence and Bomb.
That being said, the writing is clunky and the plot is just slightly more complex than the original game story. Most of the gags involve potty humor, but I’ll admit to laughing a few times. If you’re taking your children I give this a solid 7, though I’d drop that to a 6 if you’re going simply because you’re a big Angry Bird fan.
