Summary- Today I will discuss about my experience after watching the movie "The Big Bull" and try to mention all the good and bad aspects of the movie so that you can ultimately decide whether to watch the movie or not.
Star Cast- Abhishek Bachchan, Nikita Dutta, Ileana DCruz, Ram Kapoor
Director- Kookie Gulati
Producers- Ajay Devgan
6 months back we witnessed one of the finest web series made in India ever named "Scam 1992" which was based on the story of Harshad Mehta and audience absolutely loved it. It is true that Abhishek was working on "The Big Bull" project since a long time but for some reason could not get released on 2020 and that was the biggest misfortune for the team, but having said that I was really curious about what I was going to witness in a 2.30 Hours movie that I have already seen in a 10 hours web series.
Plot- The movie focuses on the rise and fall of Harshad Mehta from the mid 80s to the early 90s as he gets labeled as being Amitabh Bachchan of the stock market to a scam artist. The film which is directed by Kooki Gulati whose last film was Vivek Oberoi starrer "Prince". Yes, I know many of you have not even hear about the movie but trust me, that was a pathetic movie, so do not except any directorial masterstroke while watching "The Big Bull". It feels like the creators themselves did not have the whole idea of how Harshad Mehta made the scam and made a movie with half baked knowledge. There is a dialogue in the movie where Abhisheks brother literally says that "humare pass bhagwan se bhi jyada paise hai". The introduction of Ileana in the movie was that she enters in a conference as an old woman as narrates the story to some people but my god, the creators did not make any effort to make her look like as a 50 year old woman, they just made her hair white(that too half of the hair). Then a scene comes to the picture which I can say was a make it or break it point of the story where a banker explains Abhishek about Lending and Borrowing because that is the main point of the movie of how Harshad used the technical process to become a sensation and the creators totally screwed this whole scene up so bad that the entire explanation has been covered in 2 mins, so the audience would be lost in logic. The biggest shock I got from the movie was the reason behind Harshad wanting to be a rich man was that he wanted to impress a girl and wanted to let her dad know that he is not a poor person which for some reason, was absolutely bizarre because those were not the only reasons.
Good Aspects-
Background Score(Yalgaar by CarryMinati), Ishq Namaza Song(Though it was unnecessarily put in the movie)
Co-stars Performances- Sourabh Shukla, Ram Kapoor and Mahesh Manjrekar
Bad Aspects-
Comparison- When someone says, it is harsh to compare the movie with a series like "Scam 1992", I totally agree with the fact, but still I would have some expectations while watching a fascinating story where this movie will give you no goosebumps moment.
Over the top editing and screenplay- So dramatic and typical Bollywood masala movie.
Horrible Make-up(Ileana Dcruz looks the same even at the age of 50)
Bad Writing
Unnecessary Love story
Conclusion- There is no way that the series "Scam 1992" can be forgotten. I can so vividly remember several moments of from the series and while the movie may have been announced before the series, I cant deny the fact that, one is a fully fleshed out product and effectively performed while the other one is a half baked generic Bollywood film. I dont see any reason for you to see "The Big Bull" if you have already seen "Scam 1992".
