THE CHOICE is the tenth offering from Nicholas Sparks. In this film, two young people fall in love in rural North Carolina despite all odds. The film is full of Nicholas Sparks clichés, from the schmaltz, to the catharsis, to the star-crossed lovers vibe.

I found the whole thing fluffy and whimsical. The acting is not particularly believable, and we are left with thin caricatures for characters. Everything is so clichéd and maudlin that is hard for us to invest in these characters. The story is hokey, the acting is hokey, and there’s realty not much else I can say about this film. It is admittedly a tearjerker, but it panders to the ethos in all of us without really crafting a believable story or deep characters.
