Come one, come all. This ain’t a children’s movie by any means. This is the stuff which makes Hollywood the greatest film industry existing. Three cheers to Walt Disney and of course to C.S.Lewis who is the author of the book, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The movie begins in a city under war. There are bombs exploding, the bombarding of guns and a family sans their dad (who is away on military duty) is trying to escape the midnight assault on their home. The family comprises of two sisters and two brothers who are the heroes of this epic adventure. Lucy ( the youngest and the most charming), Edmund ( the younger bro, the arrogant one ), Susan (the elder sis, the cautious one) and Peter ( the eldest and a noble guy). They escape the war scene and in the next scene are being packed off by their mom to stay with an uncle away in the country. Lucy insists on playing hide and seek and finds a wardrobe in the top floor where she hides only to find that there is a whole new world beyond the wardrobe.
She ventures into this mystical land and befriends a fawn which is half human. He tells her about the world of Narnia which is in the clutches of the evil witch (Tilda Swinton who looks a lot like Cate Blanchett. Thanx to Jodihayes for pointing this out to me). He tells her that she has ordered him to kidnap Lucy, but he is going to let her go. He sends her back through the wardrobe. She goes back home and tells everybody of the magical land she visited but nobody believes her and tell her its just her imagination. They put her to bed but she just can’t sleep and goes back into Narnia at night. This time Edmund follows her too. Edmund crosses paths with the evil witch who tells her to get all his brothers and sisters to her castle and that she would make him king if he does so. He goes back home along with Lucy, but doesn’t confess to Susan and Peter about having seen Narnia even though Lucy insists he was there with her. They go back to bed and the following day they break a pane while playing cricket. To escape the ire of the caretaker, all of them enter the wardrobe and find themselves in a snow capped place. The adventure begins here and what an adventure it is. They find out that they are part of a prophecy and have to play a vital role in saving Narnia from the witch’s evil clutches and restoring peace unto its habitants. Joining them in this fight is Aslan, the great Lion (Liam Neeson a.k.a Oscar Schindler), who is the only one the witch dreads. Meanwhile, Edmund is kidnapped by the witch. What ensues is a grand battle to save Edmund and Narnia. Everything about this movie, every creature, the soundtrack, the art direction and the adapted screenplay are almost perfect. Take a bow Disney. I hope you guys are there when my grandchildren are watching movies. Life isn’t complete without such fantasy tales. Keep going guys.
As for all of you who haven’t watched it, just one word – WATCH!!!
