The chronicles of Narnia ... by one look at it we could brand it a fairytale but there is a deeper meaning to it if we look closer.
Written by C.S. Lewis it is a story where four London children are sent to a professors country home in order for protection during World War II. There they find a magical wardrobe which leads to a mystical land called Narnia, which is being ruled by an evil witch. To defeat the Witch, they must join forces with Aslan, the lion God of Narnia.... and then the final showdown between the good and the evil.
In this movie we get to see some amaising special effects where we see a lot of characters from Greek mythology fighting in the battle like Minotaurs (half bull half man) , Satyres ( half goat half man) , phoenix ( fire breathing birds who burn down enimies and themselves to ashes and then rise from it), Centaurs ( half horse half man...supposedly good archers) etc ... with the ugly taking the evil witchs side and the better looking the lion ..Aslans side.
In this story four children are sent away from the World War II striken London to a Professors home far away. Here while playing hide and seek they stumble upon a wardrobe which takes them to another world ... the world of Narnia . Unfortunately there is an unrest here as well. This place was currently ruled by an evil White Witch played by Tilda Swinton. It was extremely symbolic and one could easily compare the scene to the World War II and Hitler to the evil White Witch who planned to rule the whole domain and supress every voice in that domain.
The opression is shown to be lead by the Lion ... Aslan .. voiced by the extremely talented Liam Neeson who has a good 60 movies to his kitty.... is symbolic of the brave.... and who better to represent royality, bravado and righteousness than a majestic lion.
This story also has some resemblence with the Bible ... where Edmund the 2 nd brother goes on the path of treachery just like Man who sinned and has to pay some price for that. But its someone else who is killed for his sins... Aslan .. the
Lion who in an attempt to save Edmund agrees to be killed on the table of treachery. This shows the ultimate act of love ... which is comparable to the crusification of Jesus Christ.
This movie comes from Andrew Adamson who has also given us movies of the likes of Shrek 1 and 2. It was a Walt Disney production and I am sure they would be tired of counting the money they are earning.
It is an extremely well thought out movie with mind blowing special effects to its credit and I would recommend it for kids as well as adults.
