Enid Blyton - The Empress of Childrens' Books

It is many years since I read Enid Blyton in my childhood, but the wonderful memories of her books will be with me always. I think it is safe to say that it is because of her that I developed a passion for reading and I consider myself fortunate to have had access to so many of her books.

The Famous Five series is terrific, and Timmy was one of my favourite characters! I used to yearn to own a dog like Timmy.

For a little more humour, do also try the Five Find-Outers (and Dog) stories. They are smashing too.

I believe there was some talk about Enid Blyton’s books having some racist overtones. Happily, I was oblivious to such ’grown-up’ stuff and was able to enjoy the books.

I have only read one Harry Potter, and although it was a nice read, I wonder what it has that makes people go ga-ga that Enid Blyton did not have. Perhaps I should read the others first...
