“The Forsaken” – R – New This Week to Video/DVD Yes, it is another movie about Vampires!
Sean (Kerr Smith) is travelling from California to Florida to get home for his sister’s wedding. He doesn’t have much money, so he takes a job driving a Mercedes cross-country. He has strict instructions NOT to pick up any hitchhikers. (I love foreshadowing!) Sean has to pull off the road when he gets a flat tire. The only auto shop can’t get another tire until the next day, so Sean must stay in this quiet and creepy town overnight. The next day a traveling stranger, Nick (Brendan Fehr) asks him for a ride. Reluctantly, Sean agrees. This is when their real fun begins! Nick tells Sean that he’s a Vampire Hunter and he has been on the road looking for the “forsaken one.” The only way to kill the forsaken is to do it on Blessed land. On their journey they keep running into the forsaken one, Kit (Johnathon Schaech) and his vampire buddies. Somewhere on their travels Sean gets “infected.” Nick is now in a greater hurry to kill this forsaken one.
J.S. Cardone wrote and directed this thriller/horror movie. I expected a movie like The Lost Boys, but I was sadly not given a movie like that. Kerr Smith was playing his role like a goody-goody and not like a guy on the hunt for Vampires. Brendan Fehr, on the other hand, gave quite a good performance as the hunter. He should be good at this kind of as role, he is always chasing the bad guys on his TV show Roswell. Johnathon Schaech, on the other hand, is usually in romantic comedies, so this was a big change for him. He did succeed. He was very creepy and vampire like.
The Vampires in this movie did not actually “turn” into Vampires, they just were. The special effects were lacking. If you like the above-mentioned actors then you may want to see this film. If you don’t like the actors and like Vampire movies, pass this by. It was a shabbily done Vampire movie. Not what I expected at all! Enjoy!
