In spite of seeing so many reviews, couldnt resist writing mine.
Last weekend, I was going through the CDs in the nearby shop. Having seen most of the recent ones, I went for this one just by seeing Tom Hanks on the cover. And yes, as usual Tom Hanks didnt betray me. The movie is a 1999 Oscar nominee. Its a lengthy movie , a little more than three hours. The movie is slow but progresses well with every plot happening one by one. The Green mile is the euphemism for the last mile of a prisoners life and Tom Hanks plays supervisor of the prison.
Certain things in the movie stood out amongst others which needs appreciation.
Michael Clarke Duncans role as John Coffey. One would definitely get frightened by the sight of his massive stature. Contrastingly, he was projected as a very soft man who befriends a little mouse (Mr.Jingles) in the prison.
Mr.Jingles was too good in the movie. Kudos! to the director who has taken pains in making this character act to human conversations.
The scene where a person being executed in the crudest way in the electric chair. A live prisoner being burned to death due to a deliberate mistake by one of the prison officer.
The background music blended well with the monotony of the green mile.
Of Course, Tom Hanks. His suffering from urinary malfunction was enacted well, especially the scene where he crouches down with pain.
We have seen movies where the prisoners are ill-treated by the prison officers. Unlike that, in this movie Tom Hanks gets involved emotionally with everyone who comes to the green mile.
For those who have missed watching this in HBO, its worth renting a CD.
