Is it really worth reading...??

The present quality of Hindustan Times has deteriorated to a large extent as compared to what it was some 5 yrs back. Not only the paper quality but also the news which they publish has gone down. This is quite evident in the front page itself. The news which is printed on the front page is of little significance as compared to other important events taking place in this nation and in the world of course. Taking the example to today’s paper itself. Below are the headlines printed in today’s print:

-Indian Army to raise U.S-type Special Force

-Power Cos have not done their job

-Mandira back to flicking, in Tamil

Now who in this world will be interested in knowing about the future of Mandira when every person is afraid of his own future because of the deadly virus called SARS spreading like hell. Everyone will be more interested in being updated with the latest steps which U.S are taking in Iraq rather than what how Indians are trying to copy the Americans.

After a survey, people are discouraging their children to read this paper, because instead of improving English it is making it worse. It is not the shortage of vocabulary, but the usage of words at wrong places. Every educational institution is telling their students to read The Hindu in order to improve their vocabulary. If you read the editorial column of The Hindu, it not only creates general awareness but also improves your English skill as well.

The general outlook of the Times of India is so better than that of Hindustan Times. Not only the main newspaper but also the supplements are of interest. The use of coloured papers has in general increased their sale considerably.

The only positive point about Hindustan Times which I could find is the crossword. It is not very difficult nor very easy, and helps common people to apply their brains and many of us has actually made it as our pastime to solve it.

Just hoping that The Hindustan Times takes into account some of the above points if not all and regains it s worth again.
