I have this list of things that a movie might have, to make it worth the while.
subtle comedy
well drawn characters
unique/unexpected storyline
john travolta
super special effects
Now a movies gotta have two or more of those to be good. and pixars latest flick has four!! ... [getting john travolta would have made it ... well... very dang awesome].
Pixar studios has had a history of developing quality animation, they believed that computer animated flicks could be full-length feature films rivalling those with ... err ... people in them. And understandably they were the pioneers.
Subtle comedy (luxo jr.), a deeper storyline (geris game) and most important, well developed characters (monsters inc.) are all characteristic of pixars style of movie making. What makes The Incredibles among the best of their work is that theyve outdone themselves. Theyve gone and made a movie thats actually quite mature but kept the script light and fast paced.
While their stories and characters usually are engrossing enough to make the quality of their animation irrelevant (quite unlike the final fantasy movie), the animation something they have continued to push the boundaries at. in fact pixar has developed the effects software used in the biggest hollywood flicks. seriously, look at the ice crystals, the hair, the underwater scenes... theyre just ... incredible.
