Time and again our directors have tried to copy the Hollywood classic ‘Collateral’. Some have failed and some have done decent job. ‘The killer’ is okay. This time credit goes to debutant directors Raksha
Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala. Made under ‘Vishesh Films’ banner,
the movie is all about guns, out of the ordinary dialogues and the
amazing chemistry between Irrfan Khan and Emraan Hashmi. Set in
mesmerizing Dubai, the movie spans one night. The Killer (Irrfan Khan)
hires a cabbie (Emraan Hashmi) to take him around while he goes on
killing spree. Emraan is unaware of his motive till one of the corpse
falls on his cab. Subsequently the movie gets more interesting as
Emraan decides to save lives of other targets, one of them being his
future wali a.k.a. Nisha Kothari (who plays a bar girl).
Irrfan
Khan is as riveting as ever. No points for guessing he is the best in
the movie. He has got same spark and burst in him that Naseeruddin Shah
had in his younger days. Irrfan is to Bollywood what Sean Connery, Al
Pacino n Marlon Brando are to Hollywood. The guy in simple words is
just superb. I wonder why many directors don’t cast him. Why we don’t
see more of him? But he is not cut out to do those candyflosses most of
our directors repetitively make. That’s why we see less of him as half
of our directors are in Johar-Chopra camp and other half try to imitate
Johar-Chopra Kinda movies. There are no makers like Guru Dutt, Shyam
Benegal, Sudhir Mishra in today’s times who would have extracted much
more out of him than we see presently.
Emraan is good in a new
role that is in contrast to his previous roles of smooching and jazzing
to Himesh Reshammiya numbers. The guy is not really bad as he is always
thought to be. So what if he hasn’t got any big banner to work outside
his Uncle Bhatt’s banner? So what if he doesn’t have Abhishek’s
elegance, Hrithik’s abs, Salman’s looks or Aamir’s panache of acting?
He has foot-tapping chartbusters in such a short span of his career
that others get in their lifetime.
Nisha Kothari, Who is she? What was she doing?
Bharti Achrekar in her 2 minutes of role is fresh and full of life. Why again we don’t see more of her?
