The date in question…23rd of March 1931!
The time…the dead of the night.
The victims…three freedom fighters.
The place…Lahore Central Jail.
The great martyr…Veer Bhagat Singh!
Yes, here’s some reality adventure that speaks of the unspeakable-unbearable truth.
The film showcases amazing facts from the lives of one national hero whose death created a revolution in the Indian freedom struggle. His conviction and fortitude was so vigorous that the British administration had to secretly steal his and two of his companion’s body in the pitch dark of the night and execute their brutal-inhuman act.
After repeated attempts to deflate the patriotic fervour of these three young soldiers of India, the British finally resorted to their ghoulish plot and cremated the bodies before dawn after extricating their several organs out of their brave bodies. But what they didn’t anticipate was a nationwide revolt condemning this macabre act. While the lives of these three martyrs could never be returned, India woke up to a new enlightenment.
There were constant uproars across the length and breadth of the country including an agitation against the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji was being accused of being hand in glove with the devilish killers. However, this proved to be a definitive step for India to gain her much deserved-much delayed Independence.
Bhagat Singh was the name hat spelt terror for the formidable British administration. Bhagat Singh was the man who gave the nation the slogan of “Mera Rang De Basanti chola.” This catchphrase is sung to date across the vast Nation even 71 years after his death.
Bhagat Singh - Indias most beloved son.
An extraordinary young man who happily became a martyr for his country at the tender age of 23. A revolutionary who single- handedly shook up the powerful British government, exposing their true barbaric nature. A man for whom victory lay in his own death. This is his story, his legend. The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Certainly, this great role had to be matched with exacting performance!
And Rajkumar Santoshi needs to be applauded for choosing the right man. Ajay Devgan plays Bhagat Singh and trust him to stay up to the task. Sushant Singh is Sukhdev and D.Santosh is Rajguru. Farida Jalal plays Bhagat Singhs mother Mata Vidyavati and Raj Babbar is his father Kishen Singh. Amrita Rao plays the female lead whose love for the young soldier of India was so pure that she remained unmarried for the rest of her life, but never stopped loving her hero. And when she died, she was duly honoured by being referred to as Bhagat Singhs widow.
