Vampire Cow Alert

Here’s your chance to see some Vampire cows & their cowpat bombing raids! Yep! That’s right, vampire cows! You have to admit it though; the thought of vampire cows is rather amusing & makes a nice change from the usual bloodsuckers that are normally portrayed in vampire movies. Anyway, the cows aren’t the main characters, but they do manage to steal a few scenes & give you a good laugh.

The film is about a young American boy, Tony (Jonathan Lipnicki) who’s obsessed with vampires. The film is also about family of vampires who want to be human again. Tony & his parents move from America to Scotland when Tony’s father lands a new job, designing golf courses for Lord MacAshton. (Imagine Rab C Nesbitt as a vampire! On 2nd thoughts … don’t!) Each night, Tony dreams of vampires, an amulet that has the power to transform the vampires into humans & a nasty vampire hunter who’s intent on destroying all vampires. One night Tony wakes from his dream & a bat flies into his room through the large open window. The bat takes cover in the fireplace & then transforms into a small boy, vampire. This is Rudolph (Rollo Weeks). Cigar smoking techno-freak vampire hunter – Rookery Jim (Jim Carter), is hunting Rudolph. This guy has all the gadgets & gizmos that other vampire hunters would dream of! Rudolph & his family of bloodsuckers just want to become human again. They have been seeking the amulet for over 300 years & have travelled everywhere in search of it. They now know that it’s somewhere in Scotland & have 48 hours to find the amulet or else they’ll have to wait another 300 years to have another chance. The amulet holds their dreams of mortality & of a real life. Tony & Rudolph become firm friends & it soon becomes clear that Tony is more than just a mere mortal! He is the one who can help them find the amulet, but first they must defeat the rather scruffy, yet very nasty vampire hunter! That’s only a quick rundown of the plot, as I don’t want to spoil the film for you.

Suffice to say that ‘The Little Vampire’ is a great family film, which is rather funny & yet heart-warming. It’s not scary at all & is great for virtually any age to watch. You’ll have plenty of laughs whilst watching & probably a few tears too! Either-way, you’ll be entertained! Just remember to watch out for low flying bats, cows & cowpat! There’s more to the DVD than just the film, as there’s plenty of extras on the disc. Here’s just a quick guide to the extras that are featured: Scenes: You can access 20 scenes from the film & some that were cut out & left on the cutting room floor. The making of the film: Here’s where you can get behind the scenes, see how the special effects were done & listen to the actors talking about their parts.

Theatrical trailers: Here’s the trailers that were shown in the cinema to advertise The Little Vampire. TV & Radio spots: What was said on the tele & radio about the film. Quiz: Yep, there’s even a quiz, which will test your knowledge of vampires & the film. There’s only 5 questions to answer, but you’ll see what happens should you get a question wrong!

Conclusion: This film is well worth buying or renting. It’s funny & heart-warming. At the moment Woolworth’s have a special offer on when you buy this DVD. If you buy The Little Vampire, they’ll give you the video version of ‘The Addams Family Reunion’. The offer is on whilst stocks last. Pricewise, The Little Vampire DVD costs £16.99, but if you get the free video, it makes the price better again! The film is certificate ‘U’ & has a running time of 91 minutes. Marks out of 10 = 9 (The kids gave it 13 & my wife gave it 1000 as it gave here nearly 2 hours of peace whilst the kids watched the movie & extras!) It’s just Fang-tastic value for money & a great family film.
