The Longest Yard is a sports action flick with a heavy dose of comedy. The movie talks about an American Football game between the prisoners and the gaurds. The Longest Yard(2005) is a remake to’The Longest Yard(1976)’. I actually haven’t seen the old version to compare the two, But whatever it is, The new Longest Yard stands out for its humor content and an extremely fresh representation of a football game.
Plot:
Paul Crewe [Adam Sandlar]** is an American Football player who has been banned to play for getting caught in shaving points in a football game. So, here he has not done anything since then other then getting a good feed and a little publicity with the help of her girlfriend Lena. After a small fight between Crewe and Lena, Crewe is sent to a prison in crashing Lena’s Bentley horribly.
At the prison, Crewe is asked for a deal by Warden Hazen. A deal which includes a football game. Hazen knew Crewe hasn’t been playing from years and his excellent team of gaurds could easiely beat the hell out of the inmates at the prison. Crewe accepts the deal. Initially at the prison, Crewe is only supported by Caretaker [ Richard Rock]. But slowly Crewe is able in winning everyone at the prison to form a good enough team which can give a rock solid competition to the gaurds.
Meanwhile, there are a number of plans being plotted against Crewe, Caretaker and his team mates. Which want to disable them from practicing and playing. So, who wins? The Prisoners? Or, The Gaurds? To know. You have to watch the movie.:)
*Direction:
*The Longest Yard has been directed by Peter Segal. The execution of a small plot is extremely nicely done. All kinds of scenes, whether they be comic, action, emotional they are performed with good precison. The cinemetography deserves a special mention here. Excellent. You do catch a good view of the Kansas State Prison, You don’t realise for even one minute, that you are watching a movie thats wholely made in sets. Screenplay is good. Visuals and the special effects used are as expected from a hollywood movie.
*Performances:
Well, There were only three people whom I could recognise and share some knowledge. Adam Sandlar, Richard Rock and Tracy Morgan.Adam Sandlar gives an extremely immense performance, good expressions for comedy and revenge. You thoroughly get to enjoy this one!. Richar Rock is one man to be watched out for. Excellent in his comic timing, delivering one liners. Ten on ten. Tracy Morgan here plays an extremely small role, Though I think I should not be mentioning it here. If you get compelled to watch this one at the end. You will yourself know why didn’t I mention it. Rest of the cast gives a good performance. There are few of a WWE stars involved in the movie, Stone Cold, Goldberg, Dalip Singh to name a few who also perform good in the supporting cast. There are more then 30 ’nier’ prisoners in the movie and mind you everyone’s work is only to make you laugh and fall of your seats.

*Positives:
*The movie is full of sense making and’NONsense’ making humor. There are more then two dozens of good performances. Excellent camera work and good direction. The legnth of the movie is just about a 110 minutes, Editing is perfect, no scene seems to drag anyway. Music here is a big plus. People who love Punk Rock and Hip-Hop will love every background score running in the movie.
*Negatives:
*Apart from all those positives, the movie has many loop holes which fail the movie to be crafted to perfection. The reason of taking Crewe to the prison is not well justified. There are too many too friendly prisoners in the prison? The movie has extensive use of words which are not good and pleasing enough to one’s ears.

Overall^. The Longest Yard is an highly entertaining sports action drama flick. Must watch for all the Adam Sandlar fans. The only way left to watch this one is renting a disc or buying a DVD which is selling @ Rs. 599.00. Do watch it.:)
