Keanu Reeves stars as Thomas Neo Anderson, a guy living alone in a run down apartment hacking into other computers. He downloads information and other data for people to make a little cash as a side job. His day job is working for a major computer company. Neo becomes fascinated in finding the hacker of hackers, Morpheus. Instead, Morpheus finds him as the agents begin to realize Neo is looking for Morpheus. Neo doesnt know that he along with everyone else in his world are dreaming, not living. Morpheus shows Neo what the Matrix is and that they must defeat the agents from letting people think that the world they are living in is actually a program created by the agents to control the human race. They really in a life long deep sleep. Neo, Morpheus, along with the rest of his crew must stop the agents from letting this go on.
What is the Matrix? This is a question that always runs through my head every time I watch The Matrix. You learn something new each time. I felt this movie had some real promise to it since I first began to follow it when it first went into production back in March of 98. The first time I watched it was the day it was released, March 31, 1999. It just blew me away! It was a little confusing at first, but after seeing it so many times, it becomes very easy to understand. Many of the people I know that have seen it are still confused but enjoy the film with its incredible, unique special effects and action packed fighting scenes. To me, the story was so well played out. If youve seen it, you can understand why people may get confused but the storytelling was so well thought out.
The special effects, WOW! This was the best special effects Ive ever seen in any film. It has been brought up to a new and exciting level. It had a strangeness to it but a very good strangeness. The fighting scenes were some of the best Ive ever seen as well. Neo and Agent Smith fighting in mid air was thrilling and the scene between Neo and Morpheus was very fun and entertaining. Keanu and Lawrence Fishburne do such an amazing job with the Kung Fu fighting and moves. Youd almost think they trained for years instead of four months like they did.
Keanu is known to a lot of critics and others as a wooden actor, but this was probably his best role yet. He did a great job acting, confused with the Matrix thing, and he did a heck of a job with the Kung Fu fighting. I cant get over how good he was with that.
Lawrence also did an awesome job. He is always a great presence to watch on the big screen and little. Definitely one of the greats. He fit perfectly with his character, Morpheus.
Carrie-Anne Moss does a good job as Trinity, one of Morpheus crew members. She did well with the fighting moves and seemed to fit well with Keanus character, Neo.
The rest of the cast all did a really good job, bringing the film to life. Joe Pantoliano was fun to watch, although I wish he had more time in the film. Hugo Weaving was brilliant as Agent Smith. I loved the slow, straight talk he did.
The Matrix is at the moment, my favorite movie of all time. It had the best special effects Ive ever seen and the story was well thought of and acted out by an amazing cast. The fight scenes were breath taking. I am looking very forward to seeing the two upcoming sequels to follow up with this amazing story.
Keanu is really improved over the last few years. He should stick with these kind of films for now on because he is SO good at it.
This is a film that will be around for a long, long time. Im very happy that it won the four Oscars it was nominated for, but wish it was at least nominated for the best picture award. Dont let the best science fiction film, if not all time best, pass you by. Two VERY BIG thumbs up.
