THE MOVIE THAT BACKFIRED

Like the ancient pistol(THE MEXICAN)that backfires on the person who fires it the good intentions of the makers also backfires on the audience. After a long time I saw a movie that I did not like.At the beginning you are treated to a brilliant smile by Julia Roberts and as far as I remember that was the only good part. The flick is not that bad but then movie hype and publicity are such that the general public have high expectations.Well, onto the story.Jerry(BRAD PITT)is given a last chance by the MOB to retrieve an ancient antique pistol(THE MEXICAN) from Mexico and return it to the mob as a a favor because he bungled up his last job.His lovely girlfriend and he have just had a fight and she has given him an ultimatum to choose between the mob or her.He is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.So starts the game of cat and mouse with his girlfriend held hostage by a professional hitman for the mob which is brilliantly played by (JAMES GANDOLFINI)of SOPRANOS fame.If at all the movie has one redeeming point it is Gandolfini’s performance.Of course the flick has some smart one liners and good photography. The thing is that the scriptwriter bungles up the whole thing and not deciding which plane to hold on the movie to.As a result we get a mishmash which is unpalatable to say the least. If you get a chance to see it on cable see it otherwise do not waste your money on tickets.Instead save your money for the excellent musical coming up at Regal Cinema next week, MOULIN ROUGE.
