The Mexican is an inspiring romance, a clever comedy, and a touching drama, all in one.
Jerry (BRAD PITT) is forced to work as an errand boy for the mob after accidentally causing kingpin Arnold Margolese to be sent to jail; Jerry has just been given an ultimatum by Bernie Nayman (BOB BALABAN); Either he travels to Mexico and retrieve a pistol named The Mexican along its current owner, or be killed for screwing up his last assignment. He chooses to go to Mexico but his girlfriend, Samantha (JULIA ROBERTS), wants him to go to Las Vegas with her as he had promised. So, as Jerry heads off to Mexico in search of the pistol and Beck (DAVID KRUMHOLTZ), Samantha packs her bags and heads for Vegas.
On way to Las Vegas, Samanthais kidnappes but Leroy (JAMES GANDOLFINI), shoots the first kidnapper and then abducts her as insurance that Jerry will not outsmart the mob with valuable pistol. Meanwhile, Jerry arrives in San Miguel and finds both Beck and the pistol, but some locals steal the gun.
Eventually with help from Ted (J.K. SIMMONS), his associate, he manages to locate and retrieve the pistol. Samantha engages Leroy to narrate his personal life, eventually revealing a sensitive person inside the otherwise seemingly cold-blooded killer. The Mexican grips you from the beginning.
