We have had a Mediclaim Policy from New India Assurance for 20 years now. They increase the premium amount from time to time but so far the service has been okay.We submitted a claim for Rs 30650 fifteen days back.Within a fortnight the claim was accepted & we were paid Rs 28000/-.I think thats okay. They operate through TPAs, third party administrators. The previous TPA was TTK, now it is MDIndia.MDIndia has an office in Kolkata so we dont have to courier the documents to Chennai, where their claim-processing office is situated. For every claim you have to generate a claim no through the TPA.
Now, the TPAs work like this. They only recognise the id as generated in their designated card.If you give the policy no, they will say that we cannot process your claim and hence we cannot generate the claim no.In fact we had to call the TPAs Pune office many times before we understood how they work.Even then, the ladies from MDINdia were unable to generate a claim no.It was only after a guy who was senior to the ladies in designation intervened that the claim number could be generated.I may sound like a chauvinist but the ladies appeared not to understand how their own processes work.
Thereafter of course it was smooth sailing. That is how it has been in the last two decades. We have had many claims and each time we were given the claimed amount with small deduction. However there seems to be lack of co-ordination between the insurance company and TPA to the extent that the TPA has no independent record of the health policy.Still, the service has been good.Earlier they would send the claim amount as a cheque by post but now the same is electronically credited to your bank account.
