Being a scary film lover, The Others is the best film that I have seen so far this year.
The film is about two kids, Anne and Nicholas, who are photosensitive and cannot go into any sunlight. They live in a huge mansion with their Mother, Grace (Nicole Kidman). One day three strangers turn up looking for work as servants. As Grace was looking for servants and these strangers used to work in the mansion before they get the job. Edmund (Eric Sykes) takes care of the garden while the two women, Bertha and Lydia (who is mute) work in the house. As the children cannot go into any sunlight all the doors in the house are kept locked and before they enter the room all of the curtains must be drawn. Things start to go wrong when Anne starts seeing people in the house, first a little boy about her age then an older woman. You eventually find out that things aren’t as they seem.
I found this film to be very thoughtful. It isn’t action packed and some people may become bored in the middle. Stay with it though because the end is worth it! It’s very much like Sixth Sense but creepier and personally I found The Others to be overall a better film. At times it’s very on –the-edge-of-your-seat.
There isn’t a huge cast but the ones who are there do a brilliant job, excellent acting by all. Soundtrack isn’t anything to go on but there’s suitable scary music to make you jump at the appropriate times.
The best thing about the film is the twists in it, you may guess some but I really didn’t see the ending which is very unusual for me. Usually I guess before the film is halfway through.
This is definitely a film that you need to see in the cinema, it will add to the atmosphere. Don’t miss this one – it’s going to be one of the best of the year.
