Pink Panther is back with "jojoba"

The plot: "The Tornado" an international thief who has been stealing things around high profile historical artifacts around the world, who may now strike in France to steal the the Pink Panther diamond. Inspector Clouseau (Steve Martin had previously saved the Pink Panther diamond from getting lost.

Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese) appoints Inspector Clouseau to head an international ‘Dream Team’ of detectives comprising of Vicenzo (Andy Garcia) from Italy, Pepperidge (Alfred Molina) from England , Kenji (Yuki Matsuzaki) from Japan & Sonia (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) an expert on.

The Tornado’s heists, to capture the thief & to recover the artifacts with in support of Clouseau’s deputy Ponton (Jean Reno) & his assistant Nicole (Emily Mortimer). sameday, pink panther is stolen. Dream Team continues with investigation. Inspector Clouseau is in love with Clouseau’s deputy Ponton. During the investigation, Inspector Clousea loses all the fame, respect with the dream team members and also his love but he doesn’t lose the heart to crack the case. Finally, Inspector Clouseau cracks the mistery in 10 mins:)

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan goes from a neutral one to trying an American one to even attempting a British one in the climax. Maybe the makers just wanted to have a more global reach rather than having to stick to one accent :).

Comedy:

Much of the “comedy” in The Pink Panther 2 is a rehashing of the jokes from the first film. To pile on, Clouseau and Ponton offer up another awkward dance number while saying the word “jojoba” over and over. In fairness, The Pink Panther 2 does feature a couple of effective sight gags. When Clouseau goes to select a bottle of wine at a restaurant, we expect that this simple task will end with every bottle in the towering wine case smashed but instead, an elaborate and frantic juggling act develops.

Later, while the rest of the Dream Team interrogates the suspect Avelleneda (Jeremy Irons), all Clouseau’s investigative mishaps are captured soundlessly on the panel of security monitors in the background. While these are decent physical comedy bits in their own right, they are enhanced by the silencing of Martin’s ridiculous approximation of a French accent.

overall: good comedy movie to watch once (7.5/10)
