Layeth the SmackDown on Acting

When I watched the promos of the Scorpion King, I was really awed and looking forward to the movie’s release, also the fact that it came from the The Mummy director added to the anticipation. Let me start by telling you something about the movie.

An evil warlord, MEMNON (Steven Brand), plunders villages and kills innocent bystanders successfully thanks to the prophecy of his sorceress CASSANDRA (Kelly Hu, looking awesome in the movie ).

MATHAYUS (The Rock / Dwayne Johnson) happens to be a mercenary who fights for a living. A few fights and dead bodies later MATHAYUS joins forces with some Rebels to fight the evil MEMNON. But before that there is a long fight between one of the Rebel Leaders (Michael Clarke Duncan) (one of the only things which prevent you from leaving the movie hall).

Now MATHAYUS’s job is to kill the sorceress CASSANDRA and end MEMNON’s tyranny. But MATHAYUS falls in love with CASSANDRA (surprise surprise !!) and realises that she is held prisoner against her wishes (sounds like a typical bollywood potboiler doesn’t it ??)

I won’t tell you what the end of the movie is, since most of you would have guessed it by now. Besides Kelly Hu’s stunning looks and the one-liners in the movie, the movie is a no-show. The Rock has just 3 expressions that he repeats throughout the movie, he really disappoints. THE SCORPION KING is only worth a watch if you have nothing better to do.
