The concept of this show is just to show a highly dysfunctional all american family. So you can expect comedy ... thats what you get ... but this shows comedy is very varied, I feel that the writers for this show have a great talent. The comedy in this show is mostly inspired by the recent developments of the world, especially america. They ( the writers) tackle the deepest parts of human feelings in a wonderful comic way. They are great at it.
Now for the cast...
We have an alcoholic father in Homer Simpson. Indeed a funny, NO BRAIN type of a guy. He is hilarious in the antics he manages to pull off. His lines are very funny. When he raises a toast ... he says ... ’’ to ALCOHOL, the cause of and the solution to all of the life’s problems!’’. That shows his attitude. He is a caring father and a loving husband. There are numerous episodes on how he tries his hardest to fit into these roles.
Then we have this lovely wife in Marge. She is very caring and very artistic.
The son ... Bart Simpson ... ’’ Eat my Shorts’’ the original prankster in this family and show.
The intelligent daughter in Lisa.
The youngest child in Maggie.
Why is this show the longest running sitcom?? For one thing the originality of this show. The start is always different. The gathering of the family on the couch is a case in point. They have somehow managed to make it different in all the episodes ... in all the episodes ... that is a big ask.
Again the issues tackled are very deep and very well handled .. the sibling rivalry, relationship between teacher and student, a single father, Enron disaster, gays ... just name it, they have already shown it. They use a very complex way of making their point... they use it in the story ... and somehow create a visual gag to reinforce their point ...
Dont think that its just another cartoon, it is a sitcom show .. only the characters are animated. My verdict .. definitely has something for everyone .... a must see ....
