Other than the fact that this movie brings back lovely memories of my childhood, I would strongly recommend it to everyone, adults as well as children, for the following reasons:
1. Music: Incredible songs. Golden evergreen hits that haunt me even today, three decades later. My Favourite Things, Maria, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss... the list goes on. And not to forget, the phenomenal https://lyrics.
2. Performances: Julie Andrews in her lifetime best performance undoubtedly - backed by excellent acting by the entire Von Trapp Family. Not to forget Christopher Plummer in one of his most memorable roles.
3. Cinematography: Wow, what photography especially of the Bavarian Alps and the Austrian countryside. The opening aerial shot of Maria on the hilltop is at par with contemporary standards in cinematography. And to think those were the days when they did not have Steady Cam technology.
4. Story: Compelling. Engaging. Powerful. And, of course, you know, its real life stuff.
Overall, this is one of those evergreen classics that no movie buff should miss. It is one of those benchmarks that one uses when talking about excellence in films. Must see. Must experience. Must relish.
