In the beginning of the movie, it is clearly stated that the facts and proofs presented in the movie, related to the death of the 2nd Prime Minister of India, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri, at Tashkent in Jan 1966, have been taken from the RTI replies, excerpts from books, interviews, and files of various bureaucrats, spies and journalists. So, we are to believe in whatever is said and conveyed in this movie. And believe me, some of them are such startling facts and references that make u shiver and contemplate on what you have heard about this incident till now. It is actually astonishing to find so many forced glitches in the findings of the sudden death of Shastri who died under mysterious circumstances on the night he signed the famous Tashkent treaty with the then President of Pakistan, Ayyub Khan. This was immediately after India had won the war against Pakistan.
Once these glitches are brought in the open by a young journalist in the media, the Govt is forced to form an enquiry commission under the Leader of the Opposition, played by Mithun Chakraborty. The role of journalist enacted by Sweta Basu Prasad shows some conviction but fails to perfect it as the central character of the movie. Though she is still commendable in the role. The references made of KGB files, interviews of the son of Shastri ji, Kuldip Nayyar etc add to the authenticity of the clues and proofs of the mysterious death put forward in the movie. A twist in the end makes the journo realise that she was made a pawn by someone to gain political mileage but it also does open a can of worms which leave the question unanswered as to 'How had Shastri ji Died'. The producers and the director are very bold to have taken this subject which directly points out towards the person who gained from the death of Shastri ji. It also makes us realise as to how and who had shaped our country in the way it is.
It is worth mentioning here that some biased news channels and websites had wantingly given poor reviews to this movie for reasons best understood to me now, but this one is definitely worth watching. Go for it !
